Description

Description
The invention concerns a pack with outer pack and at least one inner pack for various smoking articles and with the features of the preamble of Claim 1. Furthermore, the invention concerns a method and a device for making such packs.
The invention deals with the consumer-appealing presentation of various smoking articles, which, nevertheless, are arranged in a functional relationship with each other. In particular, it deals with material and articles for the making of one’s own cigarettes. A concept for the putting together of such smoking articles will be found in EP 2 703 304.
There, filter segments made of individual filter pieces, packs for cigarette paper (booklets) with a wrapping pouch containing a portion of tobacco are accommodated in a common outer pack in the form of a traditional hinge-lid box (hinge lid pack).
The invention concerns modifications or improvements for the presentation of the smoking articles, especially in connection with the making of one’s own cigarettes. It should afford the possibility of providing articles and material for larger quantities of tobacco and thus a larger number of cigarettes which can be made.
As the solution to this problem, the pack according to the invention is configured with the features of claim 1.
The packs of different design according to the invention serve to contain smoking articles and objects for a given quantity of tobacco or a given number of cigarettes. The pack with the smoking accessories is preferably configured as a selfstanding unit. The content is oriented to the need for a given portion of tobacco, especially a pouch containing a corresponding amount of tobacco. This can be offered as a unit in connection with the pack, or as independent packs or in an outer pack in the combination, preferably configured as a hinge-lid box.
The pack contains at least the accessories needed for making one’s own cigarettes, i.e., especially filter pieces and cigarette paper. Furthermore, the pack can contain further smoking articles, such as a lighter and/or matches and/or cigarette holders. The filter pieces are preferably offered as filter segments, several filter pieces forming a unit roughly the length of a cigarette based on a detachable connection.
The pack for the smoking articles can be formed as a folding carton, roughly in the dimensions and design of a cigarette pack. Alternatively, the pack consists of a foil wrapping, preferably in the design of a flowpack, which surrounds the pack contents on all sides and which is closed tight by sealing seams, preferably with a reusable opening aid. Inside this foil pack is arranged a supporting element -the inner collar - which at least partly surrounds the pack contents.
The objects or smoking articles are positioned in the pack in a particular order. The elongated filter segments are arranged preferably in multiple or double rows. The square-shaped booklets are preferably positioned against one another by their broad sides. The filter segments can be formed into (two) groups on either side of the booklets. Another characteristic is the arrangement of a compartment or chamber partitioning in the pack, so that the articles are accommodated in respective chambers and placed in orderly manner even after being partially used.
In the manufacture of the packs, first of all the unit of accessories is formed, and this by introducing them into pockets of an endless conveyor, wherein each pocket has several chambers for receiving a (sub-)group or sub-unit of accessories, such that the entire content of a pocket corresponds to the unit of accessories for a pack.
The unit of articles is introduced by a collective pushing out of the pocket into the inner pack or into the supporting element arranged in the inner pack. The foil wrapping is then produced, especially in the design as a flowpack.
Further characteristics and features of the invention shall be explained below with the aid of sample embodiments as well as the manufacturing technology. There are shown:

The patent drawings deal with packs for various articles or products in the field of smoking products and with technologies for the manufacture of such packs. In the forefront stands a pack - hereinafter called the inner pack - for the accommodation of smoking articles in the sense of accessories for the making of one’s own (filter) cigarettes. The pack with the accessories can be arranged as an inner pack in an outer pack with tobacco (tobacco pouch) or offered separately, in particular, with a likewise separate tobacco pouch.
One example of an outer pack 10 is a hinge-lid box substantially of traditional design, namely, with a box part 11, a lid 12 connected to the latter, and a collar 13. The lid 12 is mounted by means of a transversely oriented line joint 14 to swivel on a rear wall 15 of the box part 11. Opposite this, the box part 11 forms a front wall 16. Side walls 17 and 18 are formed as two-ply in usual manner, namely, consisting of at least partly overlapping side tabs.
The collar 13 extends with a collar front wall 19 to the bottom of the box part 11. Collar side walls 20, 21 lie against the inside of the side walls 17, 18. An upper region of the collar 13 projects from the box part 11. In this part of the collar front wall 19 there is a customary recess 22, facilitating the access to the pack contents.
The pack contents consist of a portion of tobacco and accessories for making one’s own cigarettes, in the present instance, in the design with filter. A portion of cut tobacco, such as around 30 g, is located in a tobacco pouch 23. This consists preferably of a pocket 24 for receiving the tobacco portion and a closure or wrapping flap 25, which is partly folded around the pocket 24.
The further contents of the outer pack 10 are supplemental pieces for the making of cigarettes, especially filter pieces 26 and cigarette paper in a corresponding flat rectangular pack usually called a booklet 27. The quantity of these articles is matched up to the number of cigarettes which can be made with the tobacco portion. Several filter pieces 26 are removably joined together which can form a filter segment 28, roughly with the height of the outer pack 10. In the present instance, five filter pieces 26 are joined into one filter segment 28. Several filter segments 28, in the present instance 14, are part of the pack contents. The filter segments 28 are positioned upright and arranged in (two) rows. In the present example (Fig. 1), groups of filter segments 28 are placed on both sides of the approximately centrally positioned booklets 27 (two booklets 27 are shown). This unit 29 made up of filter pieces 26 or filter segments 28 and booklets 27, shown in Fig. 1, is oriented in its dimensions to the (partial) dimensions of the outer pack 10. For reasons of stable orientation and easier handling, the unit 29 is preferably broken up into sub-units. One sub-unit 100 at the edge consists of a group of filter segments 28. A middle sub-unit 101 is formed by the booklets 27. Opposite the sub-unit 100 is found the sub-unit 102 with likewise several formed filter segments 28.
One characteristic is that the formed unit 29 is positioned in the outer pack 10 at least with one separate supporting or delimiting element, so that the inside of the outer pack 10 is in fact partitioned into (two) spaces to hold the tobacco pouch 23 on the one hand and the unit 29 with supporting element on the other hand.
In the most simple embodiment, the supporting or delimiting element is designed as a (separate) partition wall inside the outer pack 10. Advantageously, however, the units 29 are arranged in a largely complete, originally closed, separate pack - hereinafter the inner pack 30 - which can also be used after the first-time opening for the storing of remaining quantities of the articles.
In the sample embodiment per Fig. 1, Fig. 2, the unit 29 is surrounded by foil, while maintaining the formation of an inner wrapper 31. This is formed as a tube bag, and thus it is placed in tube fashion around the contents - the unit 29 - to form at least one longitudinal seam 32 and transverse seams 33, 34, each time made by heat sealing of the foil. The inner pack 30 may - per Fig. 2 - be arranged so that the longitudinal seam 32 lies against the rear side - near the rear wall 15 of the outer pack 10 - and the transverse seams 33, 34 form a top and bottom closure of the inner pack 30.
In order to create a shape-stable inner pack 30, a supporting element for the unit 29 is arranged inside the inner wrapper 31, configured as a traylike inner collar 35 per Fig. 1, Fig. 2. This is U-shaped in cross section and accordingly consists of a supporting wall 36 and transversely directed side supporting limbs 37. The dimension of the inner collar 35 is chosen such that the formed unit 29 consisting of the articles 26, 27 can fit between the supporting limbs 37. The unit 29 and the inner collar 35 are entirely enclosed by the inner wrapper 31.
The inner pack 30 and its inner wrapper 31 have a special configuration. The transverse seams 33,34 in the finished overall pack extend to the top and bottom side - in relation to the outer pack 10. At least the upper transverse seam 33 is designed by appropriate sealing or by the use of corresponding bonding agents (adhesives) as a peel-seal seam or closure. The transverse seam 33 can be opened by the consumer and closed again (repeatedly). The handling is assisted by the shape of the transverse seam 33, which is provided with at least one upwardly directed protrusion 38 which can be grasped by hand. This protrusion is in the shape of a tongue here. Accordingly, the mating seam, namely the transverse seam 34 at the bottom end, is formed with an indentation 39, so that the inner pack 30 can be separated with no lost scraps from a continuous tubeshaped web.
Fig. 10 shows this design of the inner pack 30 in the opened position. The transverse seam 33 at the end has been fully opened thanks to the peel-seal connection of the flaps of the inner wrapper 31. As a result, there is free access to the entire contents of the inner pack 30, even for repeated use. In the closed position, the foil tabs of the transverse seams 33, 34 are placed against the end face or bottom side of the inner pack 30.
The relative position of the complex contents inside the outer pack 10 is shown in Fig. 7. The unit 29 with the articles 27, 28 is situated on the side facing the rear wall 15. Accordingly, the inner pack 30 lies against the rear wall 15. The relative position is chosen such that the inner collar 35 or its supporting wall 36 likewise faces the rear wall 15. A reverse arrangement, in which the supporting wall 36 faces the tobacco pouch 23, can be advantageous for reasons of forming the boundary.
In the pack per Fig. 3, Fig. 4, the inner pack 30 is formed as a closed pack of thin carton, in the present instance a folding carton with closing flap 40. The folding carton is configured so that the articles of the unit 29, preferably in the arrangement per Fig. 1, are fully accommodated in the folding carton or inner pack 30. At one end wall 41 is found the closing flap 40 in tongue-like configuration. In the closed position, the inner pack 30, in the present instance the closing flap 40, is folded against a front wall 42 and secured to it from the outside, preferably with the help of glue spots 43.
One characteristic in regard to the configuration of the inner pack 30 preferably made of (thin) carton is the formation of a tongue-like severing piece 44 at the upper marginal region of the front wall 42. The severing piece 44 is bounded by a weakened line or perforation line 45. In the closed position, the region of the severing piece 44 is covered by the closing flap 40. When opened for the first time, thanks to the (glue) connection when lifting the closing flap 40 the severing piece 44 is separated from the front wall 42, so that a trough-like indentation 99 is created for easier removal of the articles 26, 27 (Fig. 11). The inner pack 30 in the design per Fig. 3, Fig. 4 is preferably arranged inside the outer pack 10, so that the closure, or closing flap 40, is facing the tobacco pouch 23.
Another alternative is shown in Fig. 5 and Fig. 6. The inner pack 30 used there for the unit 29 is fashioned as a seal packing. The inner wrapper 31 consists of a corresponding foil. Furthermore, the relative position of the (square-shaped) contents of the inner pack 30 is situated such that the transverse seams 33, 34 formed during the making of the flowpack are situated at the side surfaces of the inner pack 30. This is provided with a reusable closure. At one end face there is a reusable closure tab 46. This consists of a foil with a permanent adhesive on the inside. The closure tab 46 in the closed position covers a removal opening 47 at the front side and the end face of the pack 30. The closure tab 46 is configured accordingly, namely, with a full-surface covering of the end face of the inner pack 30. However, the effective closure tab 46 only extends in a middle region of the end face. When opened for the first time, the closure tab 46 is separated along corresponding perforation lines from the side shoulder tabs 103, which remain permanently connected to the end wall of the inner pack 30 and adjoining regions of the neighboring walls.
Another characteristic is a supporting and holding element arranged inside the inner pack 30. This is configured as a cup-shaped tray 48 with front wall 49, side tabs or side crosspieces 50, a rear wall 51 and connecting crosspieces 52 for joining the rear wall 51 to the side crosspieces 50. The configuration is chosen such that the rear wall 51 extends over only a partial height - around half the height - of the front wall 49, which in the present instance is configured at full height of the inner pack 30. The connecting crosspieces 52 are also configured corresponding to the rear wall 51 and preferably joined by gluing (on the outside) to the side crosspieces 50. Furthermore, the front wall 49 of the tray 48 is provided with a recess 53. This is covered in the closed state of the inner pack 30 by the closure tab 46, but in the opened state it is free, so that the articles of the unit 29 can be removed.
In the manufacturing of the packs, first of all the units 29 are preferably assembled, then the supporting element matched up with them is brought into position, the inner pack 30 is produced optionally, and finally the tobacco pouch 23 with the unit 29 or the inner pack 30 are brought together in the correct relative packing position. One characteristic is that the units 29 are formed by introducing their components - the sub-units 100,101,102 - into a pocket 54 of a pocket conveyor 55. The pocket 54 consists of several chambers, in the present instance (three) adjacent chambers 56, 57, 58. The chambers 56, 57, 58 are open at both ends. At one side the articles of the unit 29 are pushed in. At the opposite side the articles can be pushed out to form the unit 29. Each chamber 56, 57, 58 serves to accommodate one sub-unit 100, 101, 102 and is accordingly adapted to the dimensions of the potentially varying sizes of the sub-units. The pockets 54 are oriented in the relative position with transversely directed chambers 56,57,58 on the pocket conveyor 55, especially in the design as a belt conveyor, i.e., oriented transversely to the conveying direction.
One special concept of a device or layout for the manufacturing of the packs or inner packs 30 consists of a pushing-in station 59 for the articles in the pockets 54 of the pocket conveyor 55, in its positioning with conveying direction transverse to a main line of the manufacturing process, a following subassembly for the merging of the unit 29 with a supporting element or with a folding carton acting as the inner pack 30, a wrapping station 60 for application of the inner wrapper 31 - if present - and a following merging station 61 for bringing together the unit 29 and the tobacco pouch 23.
The articles of the unit 29 - the sub-units 100, 101, 102 - are pushed into the assigned chambers 56, 57, 58 of a waiting pocket 54. This is done in such a way that the elongated cylindrical articles, namely the filter segments 28, are pushed out from appropriately configured filter magazines 62, 63 similar to the procedure when manufacturing cigarette packs. Thanks to the relative position within the unit 29, a booklet stockpile 64 is formed between the two filter magazines 62, 63 arranged at a spacing from each other. This is shown here schematically and it consists of a vertical holding device for booklets 27 arranged one on top of another. The respective lower ones - like the filter segments 28 in the case of the filter magazines 62, 63 - are pushed out by a slider 65 and laid down in a level above the level of the pockets 54. After this, the partial groups of the filter segments 28 as well as the two booklets 27 one on top of the other are lowered down to the level of the pockets 54 kept ready in the area of an upper branch of the pocket conveyor 55. By another separate slider 65, the sub-units 100, 101, 102 are then pushed into the assigned chambers 56, 57, 58. The arrangement is such that first of all the group 100 of the filter segments 28 is pushed into a first chamber 58, then the booklets 27 - sub-unit 101 - into the middle chamber 57 and finally the second group 102 of filter segments 28 into the assigned pocket 56.
The filled pockets 54 are transported by the pocket conveyor 55 to a pushing-out station 66, here in the area of a bottom branch of the pocket conveyor 55. The units 29 are formed by simultaneous emptying of the chambers 56, 57, 58 and transported along the main manufacturing line into the area of a folding assembly for the supporting element, in the present case designed as a turret 67 driven to turn in a transversely directed plane. This is provided with several receptacles along the periphery, which are formed in particular as U-shaped indentations 68. In these indentations 68, bounded by approximately radially directed bars, blanks for the fabrication of the tray-like inner collar 35 are introduced by forcing them in. A plate-like stamp (not shown) each time forces a blank into an indentation 68 situated in the upper position of the turret 67. In this way, the blank is shaped to form the inner collar 35 of U shape.
The inner collars 35 are transported by (cyclical) rotation of the turret 67 to a handoff position, in the present case at the lower side of the turret 67. The turret 67 is positioned such above the movement path of the units 29 pushed out from the pockets 54 that the inner collar 35 can be laid down directly on the top side of the unit 29, and this in the folded position. The units 29 after the pushing-out station 66 find themselves on a conveyor, in the present instance a belt conveyor 69. This extends transversely to the pocket conveyor 59. The belt conveyor 69 is preferably equipped with transversely directed carriers 70, which are preferably configured and arranged so that they can move in a corresponding direction of movement through the pocket 54 located in the pushing-out station 66, carrying along with them the articles situated in the chambers 56, 57, 58. The pocket 54 is provided with slots 71 in the area of the free walls of the chambers 56, 57, 58, allowing the bars of the carriers 70 to pass through the chambers 56, 57, 58.
The units 29 provided with the inner collars 35 arrive in the area of the wrapping station 60. Here the units 29 - with inner collar 35 - are supplied with a continuous sheet-material web 72 from above, i.e., from a sheet roll 73 arranged on top of the manufacturing line, by deflecting and equalizing rollers. The sheet-material web 72 placed on the successive units 29 is folded around the units 29 on both sides during the further transport to form a connection seam, namely, the longitudinal seam 32. The tubelike sheath so produced is pressed together between successive units 29 and sealed in the region of a sealing and separating station 74 in the transverse direction, forming a connection seam which is at first of double width. A transverse separation cut is produced in this region, so that individual packs - inner packs 30 - with transverse seams 33, 34 are produced.
The finished inner packs - of various configuration - are then taken to the merging station 61 (Fig. 16).
An alternative of the device for manufacturing of inner packs 30 is shown in Fig. 15. The pushing-in station 59 with pockets 54 and pocket conveyor 55 in this example is configured the same as shown in Fig. 13. The pushing-out station 66 is arranged at an offset in the region of the lower branch, in the present case being roughly in the region of a deflecting roller of the pocket conveyor 55. The components of the unit 29 or the sub-units 100, 101, 102 are pushed out by a slider 75 from the chambers 56, 57, 58. The slider 75 is provided with pushing bars corresponding to the number and position of the chambers 56, 57, 58. At the push-out side of the respective pocket 54 is arranged an element for the transversely directed combining of the components of the unit 29, in the present case a mouthpiece 76 closed in cross section. The units 29 connected to the mouthpiece 76 are pushed directly into a partly fabricated inner pack 30, preferably designed as a folding carton per Fig. 3, Fig. 4.
For the fabrication of the inner pack 30 in the design as a folding carton, a corresponding folding assembly - a folding conveyor 77 - is arranged parallel or adjacent to the pocket conveyor 55. This consists of an endless belt 78 with open receptacles 79 having a U shape in cross section. A correspondingly shaped blank 80 is pressed in from above into the receptacle 79 in the region of a pressing-in station 81 while at the same time folding the blank 80 partly. Its relative position above the receptacle 79 is chosen such that a rear wall - lying opposite the front wall 42 - is introduced into the receptacle 79, in the present case by a descending patch 62. The inserting process has the effect of straightening the folding tabs of the blank 80, especially a vertical limb formed from a bottom wall and the front wall 42. Moreover, side tabs connected to the rear wall are straightened.
The blank 80 prefolded in this way is transported (by cycles) through the folding conveyor 77 into the pushing-out station 66, where the units 29 on the side open toward the mouthpiece 76 are pushed into the inner packs 30. The unit 29 then lies in the correct packing formation against the rear wall of the folding carton. In the further transport movement of the folding conveyor 77 the straightened folding tabs, namely the front wall 42, are folded. The side tabs arranged on this remain in the starting (horizontal) plane. After this, the closing flap 40 is folded into the end position. Immediately prior to this, the glue spots 43 are applied to the upwardly pointing front wall 42, and this by a (stationary) gluing unit 83.
The for the most part finally folded inner pack 30 - in the design as a folding carton - is then pushed out from the receptacle 79 transversely to the transport direction. After leaving the receptacle 79, the side tabs of the front wall 42 are folded. Prior to this, glue spots are applied to the outside of the inner side tabs by appropriately positioned gluing units 84 on both sides of the movement path of the inner packs 30.
The inner packs 30 or folding cartons are taken over by an intermediate conveyor 85 from the folding conveyor 77. The intermediate conveyor 85 designed as a belt conveyor is directed transversely to the folding conveyor 77 and arranged above it. Carrier bars 86 in the region of a lower branch of the intermediate conveyor 85 detect an inner pack 30 in the correspondingly positioned receptacle 79. A carrier bar 86 will bear against the folding carton - against the end wall 41 -and pushes the inner pack 30 out from the receptacle 79 onto a base (not shown). The intermediate conveyor 85 is connected to a merging conveyor 87. This consists preferably of two adjacent parallel single belts 88, 89 each with protruding carriers 90. The inner packs 30 are placed by the intermediate conveyor 85 on the single belts 88, 89, while the belt of the intermediate conveyor 85 runs in a region between the single belts 88, 89 (Fig. 15).
The inner packs 30 are supplied to the merging station 61. In this area, the tobacco pouch 23 is supplied, in the present instance by a pouch conveyor 91 arranged above the merging conveyor 87. This consists of vertical belts, between which the pouch 23 is transported and finally brought to a spacing. A deflecting wheel or inserting wheel 92 each time grasps a pouch by radially oriented protrusions 93. The inserting wheel 92 - in conjunction with stationary guides - causes the deflecting of the pouch 23 into the (horizontal) transport plane of the merging conveyor 87. The conveying elements are attuned to each other such that a tobacco pouch 23 each time is placed exactly on the inner pack 30. The carriers 90 - preferably two carriers 90 arranged at a spacing from each other - are dimensioned in their height so that they grasp the tobacco pouch 23 at least partly at the rear area, but preferably by the full thickness or height, together with the inner pack 30.
The merging conveyor 87 transports the pack contents in the correct packaging arrangement (indirectly) to the outer pack 10, here, to a partly finished hinge-lid box. This is kept ready in the region of a folding turret 94, so that the tobacco pouch 23 and the inner pack 30 can be introduced in the radial direction of the folding turret 94 into the outer pack 10, these being kept ready in a (horizontally directed) pack pocket 95 of the folding turret 94.
As the transfer element between merging conveyor 87 and folding turret 94 there is arranged a packing platform 96 (of known design and operation), which can move back and forth between a receiving position next to the merging conveyor 87 and a handoff position next to the folding turret 94. The packing platform 96 is configured so that the pack contents - tobacco pouch 23 and inner pack 30 - are accommodated in a platform pocket 97.
The packing platform 96 is associated accordingly with an inserter 98 which can move back and forth. During the push-in movement into the outer pack 10, the collar 13 positioned at first on the top side of the packing platform 96 is pushed by the inserter 98 from the readying position and deposited in correct packaging manner on the top side of the pack contents, in the present case on the top side of the tobacco pouch 23, and pushed together with the pack contents into the outer pack 10. Before the pack contents with collar 13 are pushed into the outer pack 10, the collar side walls 20, 21 are folded, namely, downwards into the correct packaging position. After the unit of pack contents and collar 13 has been inserted into the outer pack 10, this is finally folded by the next turn of the folding turret 94.
The configuration of the (inner) pack 30 for the accessories or smoking articles is an important part of the invention. Another configuration of the pack 30 in the form of a modified, special folding carton appears in Fig. 17, Fig. 19 as well as Fig. 21 to Fig. 23 and - in further modified configuration - Fig. 18, Fig. 20 as well as Fig. 24 to Fig. 26.
In the first mentioned design, blanks 80 for the pack 30 are separated from a continuous material web 104 of thin carton or comparable packaging material. The blank 80 extends in the lengthwise direction of the material web 104, whose width accordingly coincides with the width of the blank 80. This forms regions bounded by folding lines of a front wall 42, a rear wall 51, an end wall 41 as well as a closing flap 40. The front wall 42 and rear wall 51 are joined together by a bottom wall 105. Side tabs 106 and 107 form (double-ply) narrow, vertical side walls of the pack. The side tabs 106, 107 are joined together for this purpose by glue - glue spots 108. The glue spots are preferably applied to the outside of the (straightened) side tabs 107 of the rear wall 51 (similar to Fig. 15). The side tabs 106 are then folded against the glue-coated outsides of the side tabs 107.
The closing flap 40 of the pack 30 in the present instance is applied to the end wall 41, which is joined in the sequence of walls within the blank to the rear wall 41. As a continuation of the side tabs 107 there is formed an end tab 109, which is bounded off by a punching line from the end wall 41 and the closing flap 40, but joined by a perforation line 110 to the side tabs 107. The corner tabs 109 are formed with a larger length, in any case projecting across the width of the end wall, preferably across the full length of the side edge of the closing flap 40. The corner tabs 109 are likewise provided with glue - glue spots 108 and by virtue of the folding process end up against the inside of the end wall 41 (Fig. 21 to Fig. 23).
The manufacturing and filling of the pack can occur similarly to the example of Fig. 15. Fig. 19 shows schematically the inserting of the unit 29 into the open pack 30. The pack is then closed (Fig. 21). The closing flap 40, formed with slanting end edges, has in this example a protrusion in the middle (insert tongue 111). This is fixed onto the outside prior to use, namely, to the front wall 42. In the example shown, a (single) glue spot 112 is provided for the detachable fixation of the closing flap 40 or the insert tongue 111. After the pack 30 is used, the glue spot 112 is inoperative. The closing flap 40 or the insert tongue 111 is then pushed into a slot 113 of the front wall 42 and so fixed for the closing of the pack 30 (Fig. 23).
One characteristic is the functioning of the corner tabs 109 at the end face. These are joined by gluing - glue spots 108 - to the end wall 41. When the pack 30 is opened for the first time, the corner tabs 109 while maintaining the connection with the end wall 41 are separated from the side walls or the side tabs 107. Accordingly, the corner tabs 109 afford protection against unauthorized opening prior to use.
The pack according to Fig. 18, Fig. 20, Fig. 24 to 26 differs from the sample embodiment described above in that the blanks 80 are separated from a broader material web 104, and the blanks 80 are transversely oriented.
The layout of the blank 80 and the pack 30 made from it corresponds largely to the sample embodiment per Fig. 17 et seq. The closing flap 40 is formed with a transversely oriented, straight side edge. For the fixation of the closing flap 40 after making use of the pack 30, a transversely oriented anchoring slot 130 is arranged in the front wall 42, having an upwardly directed contour, in the present instance a circular arc, so that an anchoring tongue 114 is formed by the front wall 42, into which the closing flap 40 is pushed for the (re)closing (Fig. 26). The pack can be provided with a glue spot in regard to the closed position prior to use, similar to Fig. 21. But in the present instance, an embodiment corresponding to the pack per Fig. 3, Fig. 4, Fig. 11 is provided, namely, with a severing piece 44, which is joined by gluing - glue spots 43 - to the closing flap 40. When the pack is opened for the first time, the severing piece 44 is separated from the region of the front wall 42, forming a trough-like edge indentation (Fig. 25). The function of the corner tabs 109 at the end face in this sample embodiment is identical to Fig. 19, Fig. 21 to Fig. 23.
Another alternative for the configuration of the pack 30 and the unit 29 made up of smoking articles appears in Fig. 28 to Fig. 30. The pack is cuboidal in shape, basically agreeing in configuration with the sample embodiment per Fig. 19, Fig. 21 to Fig. 23, but with greater depth and thus a larger holding capacity.
The unit 29 in the present instance consists of a (larger) number of filter segments 28, which is arranged as a closed sub-unit 100 disposed in several lengthwise and transverse rows in the pack 30. Another unit 101 consists of two booklets 27, which in the case of a rectangular cross section lie against each other by their broad sides, and this in a transverse orientation inside the pack 30. Its width or depth roughly corresponds to the dimension of the booklets 27 in the transverse direction. In the present example, another article is arranged in the pack 30, namely a lighter 115. In the present instance, this is arranged at the edge. A different distribution of the articles inside the pack 30 is possible.
One characteristic which can be used for all forms of the pack 30 is the partitioning of the interior space of the pack 30 into individual compartments or subspaces 116, 117, 118. The partitioning of the pack 30 can be designed so that each sub-space 116, 117, 118 accommodates one kind of article. But sub-units of the same articles can also be accommodated in corresponding sub-spaces 117, 118, 119, for example in the arrangement per Fig. 5, Fig. 9.
The partitioning inside the pack 30 can be created in various ways. In the sample embodiment per Fig. 5, Fig. 6, Fig. 9, the insert of a separate blank inside the pack 30, here a tray 48, is provided by U-shaped punchings and corresponding folding of folding tabs with separating crosspieces 119, 120, which are folded toward the inside of the tray 48 and produce there a partitioning of the inner space of the pack 30 to create the sub-spaces 116, 117, 118. The separating crosspieces 119, 120 are positioned so that compartments or sub-spaces 116, 117, 118 are formed, each being adapted to the volume of the sub-units 100,101,102, i.e., they can have different sizes.
The partitioning of the inner space of the pack 30 can also be created by separate inserts. In the sample embodiment per Fig. 28 to Fig. 30, an insert piece 121 consisting of a separate blank is provided. This consists preferably of thin carton and forms, by appropriate folding, at least two (double-ply) separating crosspieces 119, 120. In the example shown, furthermore, side crosspieces 122,123 are provided. These lie against side walls of the pack 30. The insert so formed, or the insert piece 121, can extend substantially over the full height of the pack 30 and be supported against the bottom. According to the embodiment in Fig. 28, the blank for the insert piece 121 is strip shaped and arranged in the middle region or at mid height of the pack 30 and optionally joined to the latter by glue. In the example shown, the partitioning is chosen such that the (larger) sub-space 160 is intended for holding the filter segments 28, the smaller, middle sub-space 117 is suitable for (two) booklets 27 and another sub-space 18 at the edge is intended for the lighter 115. Otherwise, the pack is similar in design to the sample embodiment of Fig. 17, Fig. 19 and Fig. 21 to Fig. 23.
The pack 30 can be formed as an inner pack of a complete pack with tobacco pouch 23. However, the pack 30 and tobacco pouch 23 can also be offered separately. Advisedly there is a detachable connection between tobacco pouch 23 and pack 30, e.g., by a banderole or - as shown in Fig. 17, Fig. 18 and Fig. 27 -with an adhesive-bonding surface 124, preferably one made of a permanent adhesive. A corresponding adhesive-bonding surface 124 in the present case is arranged in the region of the rear wall 51 of the pack 30.
