Abstract

It is known that, where a solid and tight-fitting lower glazing bead is used to secure a glazing element in an insertion rabbet in a window frame, a destructive accumulation of water along the bottom edge of the frame can be encouraged and that this can be countered by the use of a profiled metal glazing bead, which, with snap- lock action, is pressed into holding engagement with corresponding profiled mounting blocks fixed to the base of the rabbet in front of the glazing element after the latter's insertion in the rabbet, the only problem being that a secure snap-lock engagement can be correspondingly difficult to release when the glazing bead is required to be removed for maintenance treatment of the woodwork. In the invention, the snap-locking is procured by interaction between the mounting blocks 16 and some short intermediate profile pieces 42 inserted in holding grooves on the back of the glazing bead 4, and following the snap-lock mounting the locking can then be cancelled by displacing the intermediate profile pieces 42 in the longitudinal direction out of engagement with the mounting blocks 16. The acquired effect is that the snap- locking can be extremely effective, yet easy to release when required, and the system is additionally suited to being realized such that the snap-lock insertion of the glazing bead 4 can be made inwards towards the glazing element 12, a sealing against the glazing being securable by means of a sealing strip 26 even in the course of this actual insertion motion, whereby the sealing strip 26 is able to be pre-mounted on the glazing bead 4. <IMAGE>
