Abstract

Underwater weapon in the form of a coherent unit which comprises an explosive charge 32, a rocket engine 34, systems 36 for detecting and searching a target, and also a hydro-impulse propulsion system for propulsion of the weapon under water. The weapon is fired against a previously detected target such as a submarine to follow a ballistic trajectory through the air by means of the rocket engine. The weapon hits the water near the submarine which is subsequently detected by means of a system in the weapon comprising active and/or passive detecting possibilities 90, 92, 94. The direction to the submarine thus determined is used by the control system for guiding the weapon in a direction towards the submarine under water. A hydro-impulse motor 62, 64, 66, 68 utilises the empty rocket engine 46, 48, 50 as a propulsion chamber and is adapted to driving the weapon forward under water in direction towards the submarine, where the warhead 30, 44 detonates at contact with the submarine. The hydro-impulse motor 62, 64, 66, 68 is adapted to periodically permitting seawater to flow into the chamber 46 and to pressing out the water at great speed through a converging nozzle 60. During the intervals between the exhausting of water impulses, the detecting system 36 monitors the submarine such that this monitoring is not disturbed by noise from the propulsion mechanism of the weapon. <IMAGE>
