In an apparatus for detecting the absolute angular velocity of a body (2) mounted pivotally about a vertical axis (3), a housing (1) which is in fixed communication with the pivotal body (2) comprises bearings (4,5) carrying a pivotal horizontal shaft (6). At one end of the shaft (6), an electric motor (9) is secured, which is mounted imminently. The shaft (11) of the motor (9) is perpendicular to the pivot shaft (6) and carries two inertia flywheels (12, 13). This pivotal unit is associated with means for resiliently returning to the rest position with attenuation (14 to 23), as well as with displacement sensors (24,25). The invention is applicable inter alia for detecting the speed of rotation of the paver on a tower crane.
