The present invention relates to a cruise control engine for motor vehicles, such as passenger cars and vans. More specifically, the invention relates to a cruise control adapted for retrofitting in motor vehicles not prepared for retrofitting of the cruise control.
Deres fokus ligger af konkurrenceårsager på minimering af køretøjets fremstillingspris.5 Many of the major automobile manufacturers have a very limited interest in supplementary equipment for the motor vehicles, popularly known as the aftermarket, for mounting in their vehicles after delivery. Their focus is, for competitive reasons, on minimizing the vehicle's manufacturing cost.
10 Hvis kunden eksempelvis ønsker en fartpilot i sin bil, vil produ centen derfor i forbindelse med produktionen at lægge et ledningsnet i bilen, der muliggør tilslutning af en i bilens kabine monteret betjeningsindretning til bilens motorcomputer, der implementerer fartpi bifunktionen.10 For example, if the customer wants a cruise control in his car, the manufacturer will, in connection with the production, put a wiring harness in the car, which allows connection of a control device mounted in the car's cabin to the car's engine computer, which implements the cruise control function.
If the car is not ordered with the cruise control, a reduced wiring will be placed in the car for which the wiring needed to connect the control unit to the engine computer is saved.
This makes it impossible or, at best, difficult for a later implementation of a cruise control function, for example, the necessary wires must first be drawn from the cabin where the operation is located, to the engine computer, which is typically in the engine room.
Danish utility model DK BR 2004 00263 describes a cruise control that basically overcomes these problems.
I dette tilfælde ville fartpiloten kunne overdreje motoren og ødelægge denne.25 Although this well-known cruise control has won good accomodation for mounting in a wide range of vehicles, it still has a number of disadvantages. A first disadvantage is the mounting time, which, despite most of the mounting being done by plug connections, is 40-45 minutes. Another disadvantage is that it is not possible to coordinate the operation of the 30 cruise control with particular safety equipment in the car, such as ESP, ABS and airbag. Thus, the cruise control will continue to operate in situations where the car's airbag may be released without the driver having applied the brake beforehand, which would otherwise give the cruise control to cease to maintain speed. The same would apply in situations where the car's ESP had to function to stabilize the car without the driver applying the brake or clutch. A third disadvantage is the situation in which the car had to come into free gear with the cruise control activated, for example in the event of an accident or accidental due to the movement of persons in the car. In this case, the cruise control could overdrive the engine and destroy it.
Skriftet angår sig ikke med eftermontering, men beskæftiger sig med kompensati-10 on for speedometermisvisningen.DE-A-10009170 discloses a cruise control that communicates via the vehicle's data bus, for example a CAN bus. The font does not concern retrofitting, but deals with compensation for the speedometer display.
In connection with data buses in vehicles, speed-pilot solutions are also known, where the motor computer from the factory is programmed with cruise control function. This cruise control function is activated when a control element is connected to the bus. The disadvantage of this solution is that it is only applicable to certain cars, namely only those cars where the manufacturer has chosen to pre-program the cruise control function in the engine computer.
It is the object of the present invention to overcome these and other disadvantages of the prior art.
According to the invention, this task is solved by a cruise control, where the cruise control comprises a cruise control unit arranged for insertion between the position sensor in the vehicle accelerator and the vehicle engine computer, a first electrical connecting cable for connecting the cruise control unit to the position sensor in the vehicle accelerator and a second connecting cable for connecting the cruise control unit of the vehicle engine computer, which cruise control is peculiar in that it is adapted to communicate via at least one data communication bus in the vehicle.
By arranging the cruise control to communicate via the existing data bus in the vehicle, an easier and more secure connection 30 of the cruise control is achieved, so that the required working time for retrofitting the cruise control in a vehicle is significantly reduced. At the same time, it is possible for the cruise control unit of the cruise control to monitor and take into account signals on the data communication bus indicating activation of safety equipment or procedures that the continued activation of the cruise control could adversely affect. Thus, automatic deactivation of the cruise control in such cases, with consequent increase in safety, becomes possible. As a signal is sent from the cruise control unit via the data bus which, instead of the actual signal from the accelerator pedal, emulates a given depression of the accelerator pedal that differs from the actual one against the vehicle's engine computer, the retrofitting is possible completely independently of the engine computer programming, is preprogrammed with cruise control function. Thus, it becomes possible to retrofit a cruise control in vehicles where the manufacturer does not offer -10 retrofit of cruise control option by simply activating the car's original set-up.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the cruise control is arranged such that communication with the cruise control unit via the data communication bus takes place as one-way communication from the data communication bus to the cruise control unit. In this way, the aforementioned possibility for the cruise control unit of the cruise control to be able to monitor and take into account signals on the data communication bus is secure, in that it does not itself transmit signals which, for example due to malfunctioning, could activate safety equipment or procedures.
However, in a further embodiment of the invention, it is preferred that the cruise control further comprises an operating means and that communication between the control means and the cruise control unit is via the data communication bus. This saves additional connections and thus assembly time.
Accordingly, according to yet another preferred embodiment of the invention, the cruise control is arranged so that communication with the control means via the data communication bus takes place as one-way communication from the control means to the data communication bus. This is advantageous in that it is fully compatible with the one-way communication to the 30 cruise control unit.
According to a particularly preferred embodiment, the data communication bus is a CAN bus and / or a VAN bus. This makes it possible to use the same cruise control unit for a wide range of different makes and models of vehicles, as these buses have gained wide 4 DK 176226 B1 width. Simply requiring cables with appropriate connectors and programming of the cruise control unit that can be made in-situ for mounting in a vehicle.
According to a further preferred embodiment of the cruise control in accordance with the invention, communication from the operating means to the cruise control unit takes place via the VAN bus. The VAN bus can advantageously be used rather than the CAN bus, since it only communicates information that does not relate to safety equipment in the vehicle.
According to yet another embodiment of the cruise control of the invention, the actuator comprises plugs which are adapted for socket connection with existing contacts in the vehicle. Modern vehicles with CAN bus and / or VAN bus will normally be prepared with switches for insertion of appropriate controls intended for, for example, operation of factory-fitted cruise control. Therefore, in the cases relevant to the present invention, where there is just no factory-mounted cruise control, these will therefore conveniently be available when retrofitting a cruise control.
The invention will now be described by way of non-limiting examples of embodiments thereof, and with reference to the drawing, in which FIG. 1 shows a cruise control unit for use in the cruise control according to the invention; FIG. 2 shows a suitable cable bundle comprising cables for use in a cruise control according to the invention; FIG. Figure 3 shows an operating device according to a preferred embodiment of the cruise control according to the invention; Figure 4 shows a programming device for use in in-situ programming of a retrofitted cruise control according to the invention; 5 shows the connection of cables to the cruise control unit of the cruise control according to the invention, and FIG. 6 shows an example of retrofitting a cruise control according to the invention under the steering wheel of a vehicle.
4. Dvs. en 5 DK 176226 B1 fartpilotenhed 1, som vist i fig. 1, et præfabrikeret kabelbundt, som vist i fig. 2, et betjeningsorgan 35, som vist i fig. 3, og en programmeringsenhed, som vist i fig. 4. Disse dele vil blive beskrevet nærmere nedenfor. In a preferred embodiment, the cruise control of the invention comprises only the four parts shown in FIG. 1 to FIG. 4. Ie. a 5 pilot 171 pilot pilot unit 1, as shown in FIG. 1, a prefabricated cable bundle, as shown in FIG. 2, an actuator 35, as shown in FIG. 3, and a programming unit as shown in FIG. 4. These parts will be described in more detail below.
Thus, FIG. 1, more specifically, a cruise control unit 1, where the cruise control unit 1 is provided with suitable multi-connectors 8, 9, 10 for connecting cables 11, 12, 13 with suitable complementary connectors, 14, 15, 16. Connections 14, 15, 16 and cables 11, respectively , 12, 13 are seen in other figures, best in fig. 2, 3 and 5. The cruise control unit 1 is adapted for insertion between the position sensor of the vehicle accelerator pedal and the vehicle's engine computer and, depending on the vehicle's speed signal, can emulate a given depression of the accelerator pedal which differs from the actual, opposite to the vehicle engine computer, as it does. is known from Danish utility model DK BR 2004 00263. This is done by separating in the vehicle an existing plug assembly in the cable between the position sensor and the motor computer and between the two existing connectors inserting corresponding connectors 16, 17, so that the signal from the position sensor is passed through it. to plug 16 connected to plug 18 to cruise control unit 1, which returns an emulated signal via cable 19 connected to plug 17, which is thus routed to the motor computer instead of the actual signal from the position sensor.
The cables 11, 12, 13 are part of a prefabricated cable bundle comprising all the cables and connectors necessary for retrofitting the cruise control in a vehicle. Thus, the cable bundle also includes cables and connectors for connecting to one or more of the vehicle's data communication buses. The FIG. 1 prefabricated cable bundles comprise cables and connectors enabling the connection of the cruise control unit 1 to both a VAN bus and a CAN bus. Thus, the connectors 20, 21 mounted on the respective cables 22, 23 allow connection to a CAN bus. Similarly, the 30 connectors 24, 25 of the respective cables 26, 27 allow connection to a VAN bus.
The connection itself takes place in the same way as in connection with the accelerator mentioned above. Ie by separating an existing connector and inserting the two cables between them. This is best seen in FIG.
Kommunikationen på bussen føres derved til fartpi-lotenheden 1, der således kan overvåge kommunikationen på CAN-bussen.6 in which the connector 28 of the existing CAN bus cable 29 is pulled out of the connector 30 in a communication box 31 under the steering wheel 32 in the vehicle. Instead, the connector 20 on the cable 22 is plugged into the connector 30 in the communication box, while the connector 28 is plugged into the corresponding connector 21 on the other cable 23. The communication on the bus is thereby conveyed to the cruise control unit 1, which can thus monitor the communication on CAN bus.
Stikket 33 stikkes i stedet i det modsvarende stik 25 på kablet 27, således at kommunikationen på VAN-bussen kan aflæses af fartpilotenheden 1.Similarly, the connector 33 of the VAN bus cable 34 is pulled out of a connector not shown in the communication box 31, in which, instead, the plug 24 is plugged into the cable 26. Instead, the connector 33 is plugged into the corresponding connector 25 of the cable 27, so that the communication on the VAN bus can be read by the cruise control unit 1.
The communication box handles a large number of communications, including the communication from various controls, such as 15 contacts for flashes, horns, wipers, lights, etc. Whether the car is manufactured with cruise control or a side needs to be retrofitted, there is in connection with the driver's seat and especially in the vicinity of the steering wheel provided plugging capability for a cruise control controller, typically a stem with the switches or switches necessary for operating the cruise control. If no cruise control is mounted in the vehicle during production, this insertion option will be available for insertion of a suitable operating means 35 for the cruise control, where, in a preferred embodiment, this operating means is of course provided with an appropriate connector 36, as shown in FIG. 3. As soon as this control device 35 is plugged in, it will be able to communicate via the data bus to the retrofitted pilot unit 1, partly through the existing part of the data bus cables and partly via one of the retrofitted data bus cables 22, 26, which are connected to the existing data bus cables in the vehicle, not shown. The cruise control unit can thus be notified via the data bus which of the switches 37, 38 on the control device 35 are activated. If the vehicle does not have the desired plug-in option at the factory, the control means must be mounted in another way and for example connected to the data bus via a separate cable connection.
7 DK 176226 B17 DK 176226 B1
As mentioned, a preferred embodiment of the invention also encompasses that of FIG. 4, the programming unit 39 has an operating part in the form of a switch 40. After the installation, the operating part is connected to the cruise control unit 1, via the cable 13 and 5, the plug 16, which corresponds to the plug 10 on the cruise control unit 1, as illustrated in FIG. 5. Thereafter, by means of appropriate repeated pressures on the switch 40, a suitable program or settings can be selected in connection with the programming of the cruise control unit 1, so that the cruise control can be used with the particular car model in which the cruise control has been retrofitted. This can be done in situ during the retrofitting of the cruise control. Upon completion of programming, the programming unit 39 is removed from the plug 10 of the cruise control unit 1 and the retrofitted pilot is ready for use.
The invention provides an improved post-mount cruise control that overcomes the aforementioned disadvantages. In addition to the reduced risk of failure, special attention should be paid to reducing the time spent on the cruise control assembly. Initial experiments have shown that the mounting time for retrofitting the cruise control according to the invention is significantly reduced compared to the prior art according to Danish utility model DK BR 2004 00263, where the mounting time is typically 40-45 minutes, namely to a third or fourth thereof. i.e. ca. 10-15 minutes.
The invention is not limited to the embodiments shown, and those skilled in the art will appreciate that for the individual parts there will be a large number of possibilities of variation without departing from the invention as defined in the claims. For example, cables and connectors, including the legging organ network, will depend on the manufacturer, make and model of the vehicle in which the cruise control is to be fitted. There may also be differences in whether the vehicle has implemented one or both of the VAN and CAN data buses, just as those skilled in the art will be able to modify the invention to other vehicle buses. Furthermore, the person skilled in the art will understand that the communication box is merely an example and that it may be designed in countless ways, or even completely omitted. Thus, the compounds shown are only examples.
