Abstract

A coating composition, comprises a mixture of polyalkylene oxide di(meth)acrylates, a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate, an alkanepolyol poly(meth)acrylate crosslinking agent, a UV polymerisation initiator and a reactive diluent and/or easily removed solvent. A coating composition (I) comprises (all amounts = wt.% with respect to components (A)-(E)): (A) a mixture of polyalkylene oxide di(meth)acrylates of formula (I) (70-95), containing (A1) polyalkylene oxide diols of average molecular weight 300-700 (50-95), and (A2) polyalkylene oxide diols of average molecular weight 900-1300 (10-50); (B) a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate of formula (II) (1-15); (C) an alkane polyol poly(meth)acrylate crosslinking agent (0-5); (D) a UV polymerization initiator (0.1-10); (E) optionally conventional additives for UV curable coatings, such as UV absorbers and/or flow/rheological additives etc.. (F) an easily removable solvent (0-300) and/or a monofunctional reactive diluent (0-30); H2C=C(R)-C(O)-O-O(CH2-CH2-O)n-C(O)-C(R)=CH2 (I) H2C=C(R)-C(O)-O-(CH2)m-OH (II) n = 5-30; m = 2-6; and R = H or CH3. Independent claims are also included for: (i) a process for the coating of a molded plastic articles by application of the composition (I) and hardening; and (ii) the resulting coated article.
