Abstract
The first catalyst bed (6) is smaller in volume than the second catalyst bed (7). Both are cylindrical. The outer cylindrical wall (12) of the first, inner bed forms the cylindrical inner wall of the second. Flow is radial through the first bed and axial through the second. Preferred Features: Mounting dimensions of the beds are coordinated such that filling heights of both in the overall casing (2) are essentially the same. The second catalyst bed is formed for axial flow. At the domed top of the overall casing, there is a supply standpipe (3) to the dome (13) of the inner catalyst bed (6). Nearby, a second standpipe (3') bypasses the inner catalyst bed.
