Abstract

The apparatus for non-destructive testing of hot rolled material, in particular, steel rod above the Curie point temperature includes a coil surrounding the rod undergoing rolling. Faults such as cracks, holes etc. lead to propagation disturbances of eddy currents excited in the rod. These disturbances produce in the coil an error signal which is recorded and evaluated. The coil is located directly at the exit of a roll stand and between two roll stands of a block formed by several roll stands arranged in series.
