Abstract

The silencer housing (1) is divided by two partitions (8a,8b) into three chambers (9-11). The exhaust gas inlet pipe (6) in the middle chamber area has small round openings (12) which are arranged in groups (a-e) in a ring around the pipe wall. In the group of openings (e) nearest the silencer outlet side (4) the openings (12) are closest together and in the group of openings (a) furthest from the silencer outlet side the openings are arranged furthest apart from each other. At least one partition can have instead of one or two openings (16) free of an exhaust pipe several smaller openings spread out over the partition with the diameter being larger than that of the openings (12) in the exhaust pipes and the overall cross-section corresponding to the cross section of the free openings. <IMAGE>
