Abstract

For coating planar substrates, for example the interior or exterior surfaces of buildings, a substrate (10), which is as flat as possible, is coated with an adhesive layer (12) which supports a planar carrier (16). According to the invention, this is a thin, flat material having in its depth dimension a zone of which the material strength is less than the adhesive strength with respect to the substrate. It is preferred to use a porous, impregnated long-fibre paper, having a thickness in the range of 0.30 to 3.00 mm, especially 0.50 to 0.80 mm, and having a basis weight not below 130 g/m<2>, particularly of bleached cellulose fibres having a length of 2 to 5 mm and a fibre thickness of 10 to 50 mu m. A capillary width in the range of 50 to 150 mu m is also favourable for impregnation with acrylate resin and/or a fungicide. The adhesive layer is a high-viscosity, humidity-insensitive adhesive, for example a pasty, rollable dispersion adhesive made of polyvinyl acetate or acrylate. The carrier (16) adhering to the substrate can simultaneously be an insulating material and can be externally coated, for example with a coat of paint or plaster (22). <IMAGE>
