Description
It is suggested to use plastics, e.g. polymers, for the production of records. The experiments with it have so far not given a completely satisfactory result; the flowability is insufficient, so that the grooves are not pressed out exactly; then the surface texture leaves a lot to be desired, which is noticeable in crackling phenomena during playback. It has been found that the chain length of the molecules of the material plays an essential role for these factors and that it is important to keep this length as small as possible. On the other hand, the chain length of the molecules also has an influence on the mechanical properties of the material, in particular with regard to the requirements resulting from record technology. The material must have a certain strength in order to guarantee a sufficient playback time. In consideration of these requirements, it is proposed according to the invention to reduce the chain length of the molecules, taking into account the desired mechanical properties of the material, to such an extent that the flowability and surface quality produce satisfactory results. The chain length of the molecules can be influenced in a manner known per se by choosing the polymerization conditions accordingly, e.g. the polymerization temperature and / or the type and amount of the polymerization accelerator.
