Description
The invention relates to the production of single or multi-layer flat products from loose textile nonwovens by consolidating the fiber web by means of a binding agent.
As is known, the processing of loose fiber fleeces into synthetic leather or the like requires. a more or less extensive consolidation of the nonwoven web. This is usually done in such a way that a liquid binding agent is poured or sprayed onto the loose fleece or between two fleece webs, which penetrates into the fleece according to its consistency and the amount applied and, after subsequent pressing, bonds the individual pile fibers to one another to form a cohesive surface. It has also already been proposed to soak the fleece in a tub filled with binding agent and to squeeze off the excess binding agent. These known methods are aimed exclusively at a complete penetration of the fleece with binding agent, so that precise metering of the binding agent is not necessary, but also not possible. In any case, the application takes place of the binding agent in an amount that exceeds the necessary degree of solidification, so that a large part of the binding agent has to be removed again. The hardening of the fleece is followed by drying of the binding agent and optional finishing of the product (e.g. priming and / or painting). The evaporation of the high moisture content contained in the fleece after the binder has been introduced makes intensive heating of the fiber necessary, which must not be driven too high with regard to the binder and is therefore tedious and cumbersome. The consolidation processes used up to now are therefore time-consuming and relatively unprofitable.
According to the invention, a method for the production of consolidated nonwovens is proposed, with the application of which, on the one hand, the aforementioned disadvantages of the known methods do not occur and, on the other hand, a considerable increase in performance by shortening the drying process, as well as the possibility of an advantageous variation of the achievable products is ensured. The characteristic feature of the method according to the invention is that a viscous or paste-like binding agent is spread on the loose fleece in an adjustable layer thickness. Due to the pasty form of the binding agent, the amount of liquid introduced into the fleece is limited to a minimum, so that the subsequent drying process can take place in the shortest possible time. In addition, however, the spreading of the binding agent enables the attainment of a degree of consolidation that can be precisely determined in advance, i.e. the fleece becomes not - as before - completely interspersed with any desired amount of the binding agent and removing an excess of binding agent, but only as much binding agent is applied in each case as is maximally necessary to solidify the fleece. However, the binding agent can only be applied so strongly that part of the fleece layer is not penetrated by it. Since the binder is on the surface of the fleece, the degree of solidification naturally decreases towards the bottom of the fleece, depending on the amount of binder and the respective pressure of the rollers through which the coated fleece is routed as usual. According to the invention, both factors can be coordinated with one another in such a way that a certain degree of solidification is achieved with the greatest possible accuracy. This is particularly advantageous if the desired product is to retain a fluffy character on one side and a solidified layer on the other. To this end, it is particularly important to maintain a consistently constant binder film on the nonwoven web. However, this can only be achieved with certainty if the binding agent according to the invention is applied by continuously and evenly moving the fleece in its entire width under an accumulation of the binding agent applied in any amount to the fleece web and accumulated in front of a coating device. Here, the fleece takes with it a thin layer of the binding agent, the thickness of which is determined by the space between the fleece surface and the adjustable scraper of the coating device. The originally opposed to such a way of working Concerns that the fleece would be damaged or even tear off under the weight of the binder accumulation have not come true, but rather it has been shown that the fleece can withstand the resistance, which largely depends on the consistency of the binder, and ensures a reliable binder spread .
According to the method according to the invention, both single-layer and multi-layer products can be produced by placing a further nonwoven web in a known manner on the nonwoven side coated with binder and optionally coating this again in the same way with binder.
A further embodiment of the method according to the invention consists in adding a propellant to the binding agent, whereby the solidified fleece layer is given a porous character, which makes the product particularly suitable for the manufacture of blankets or items of clothing. The propellant can subsequently be removed again from the porous material by washing it out.
Furthermore, according to the invention, the usual finishing of the solidified fleece can advantageously be simplified by applying a primer to the top of the fleece in the same operation after the binding agent has been absorbed, using a coating device in the same way as when applying the binding agent. In the same way, a lacquer or the like can also be used in the same operation. layer applied to the primer and the nonwoven web embossed as usual.
After the inventive treatment of the fleece, the fleece web is passed in a manner known per se through a pair of rollers which, by adjusting their spacing accordingly, bring about a reduction in the fleece thickness to the desired thickness and a correspondingly deep penetration of the binding agent. This is followed by the usual further treatment, e.g. drying, etc., of the fleece, the surface of which can optionally be roughened on one or both sides in a raising machine.
For a more detailed explanation of the method according to the invention, a device is shown schematically in the drawing, for example, which illustrates the use of the method in the production of a double-layer, fully consolidated fiber fleece with a primed surface.

Eine dritteOn the endless conveyor belt 3, a loose fleece web 5 of a certain density and thickness is brought to the device and arrives at the endless conveyor belt 6, from which it is moved at as constant a speed as possible under a coating device for the binding agent. The coating device consists essentially of a scraper 7 (disc, tube or roller) which is arranged across the direction of movement of the nonwoven web over an entire width and the lower edge of which is at an adjustable distance above the nonwoven surface. Before the scraper 7, the viscous Sige or pasty binders 8 brought in any amount on the fleece and dammed. Under the accumulation of the binder, the fleece is continuously pulled away, the scraper 7 evenly spreading the binder in a layer thickness that corresponds to the distance between the lower edge of the scraper and the fleece surface over the entire extent of the fleece. On the sides of the scraper there are delimitation plates 9 which prevent the binder from flowing off to the side. The conveyor belt 6 is supported below the coating device by a roller 10 in order to prevent the belt from sagging under the weight of the binding agent accumulation and to keep the layer thickness of the binding agent constant. On the fleece side coated with binding agent, a second fleece web 5 'is placed by the conveyor belt 4 and fed together with the fleece web 5 to the rollers 11, 11', which reduce the double fleece in a known manner to the desired thickness and thereby depress the binding agent cause. A further coating device, which in turn consists of an adjustable scraper 7 'with lateral delimitation plates 9', is arranged above the double fleece in front of the rollers 11, 11 'in order to apply a primer to the top of the double fleece in the same operation. The primer 12 is piled up in front of the scraper 7 and spread onto the fleece in the form of a thin film layer by sliding it away under the spreading device. A support roller 13 for the conveyor belt 6 is again located under the coating device 7 ', 9'. A third one
Coating device can be provided for applying a layer of lacquer. Depending on the number of nonwoven webs to be processed, several coating devices can be arranged one above the other in a corresponding manner in a stepped manner.
