Befestigungsmöglichkeiten für partielle Zahnprothesen sind bereits in mannigfaltigen Formen bekannt. Zumeist sind jedoch die Prothesen, Brücken u. ä. so mit den benachbarten natürlichen Zähnen verankert, daß sie nicht vom Träger, sondern nur vom Zahnarzt selbst wieder abgelöst werden können, falls sie nicht gerade zu Bruch gehen. So beschreibt unter anderem das deutsche Patent 358 721 eine vorteilhafte Befestigung, bei der am Stützzahn eine waagerecht abstehende öse angebracht ist, die von einem am Zahnersatz befestigten Haken durchgriffen wird. Haken und öse sind dabei so dimensioniert, daß der künstliche Zahn einen horizontalen und vertikalen Spielraum behält, was die Elastizität erhöhen soll. Nachteilig ist jedoch bei dieser Lösung, daß der Träger nicht die Prothese selbst abnehmen kann, da sie wohl nicht starr mit dem Pfeiler befestigt, aber doch unlösbar ist. Daß das Reinigen eines derart befestigten Zahnersatzes sehr schwierig, genau genommen sogar auf die Dauer unmöglich ist, bedarf keiner Frage.
