Den Gegenstand des Hauptpatents 968 681 bildet die Verwendung von Stahllegierungen, die mehr als 1,0 bis 1,6 °/o Kohlenstoff, 1 bis 6 %> Chrom, 1 bis weniger als 5 % Molybdän, 2 bis weniger als 5 % Vanadin, gegebenenfalls bis zu 5 % Kobalt und als Restbestandteil Eisen mit den üblichen Verunreinigungen enthalten, als Werkstoff für Schnelldrehstahlwerkzeuge. Diese Stähle zeichnen sich trotz eines verhältnismäßig geringen Anteils an zusätzlichen Legierungsbestandteilen durch eine große Schnittleistung aus. Nach der Erfindung wird die Schnittleistung dieser Stähle mit mehr als 3 °/o und weniger als 5 °/o Molybdän noch dadurch verbessert, daß man ihnen einen Zusatz an Wolfram, der mindestens 50 % des Molybdängehalts ausmacht und in den Grenzen von mehr als 1,5 bis 4% liegt, beifügt.
