Description
Process for obtaining sugar from molasses It has been found that you can win a large part of the sugar content of the molasses for yourself, if the molasses in the dry state, expediently at an elevated temperature, in absorbs so much methanol that a complete solution results, the solution add small amounts of sulfur dioxide and sulfuric acid, for some time with ordinary, low or high temperature leaves itself and the out of solution separates crystallized sugar from the liquid. One works appropriately that the dried molasses is stirred with hot methanol and poured into the liquid after cooling, introduces sulfur dioxide gas and adds sulfuric acid. Leaves you then stand the mixture for one or more days, while also stirring it can, and if the separated sugar is thrown off, the majority is obtained Part of the sugar originally contained in molasses.
Because the molasses is alkaline and some of the sulfur dioxide through the alkali is bound, so it is advisable to use Schwrefeldioxyd and sulfuric acid wants to save by first neutralizing the molasses by adding other acids. Carbon dioxide can also be used for this purpose; you can, for example, carbon dioxide-containing Introduce exhaust gases into the mixture.
Example 500 parts of dried molasses and 300 parts of methanol are used stirred while heating. One lets cool conducts 5 parts of sulfur dioxide a, add 10 parts of g6 ° Joige sulfuric acid and leave to stand for 24 hours. By throwing it off 215 parts of sugar are obtained.
