Mold for casting metals and method for producing casting molds The invention relates to a mold for casting metals, in particular iron and steel, which by pressing and sintering from a Gemis'-hocn mefälschen and -n1chtmetalii-`sc % `en powdery particles is made and consists of metals or alloys as well as high-melting oxides and / or carbides. Tests have shown that particularly favorable conditions in terms of mechanical strength, resistance to temperature changes and the influence on the cooling of the cast parts result if, according to the proposal of the invention, the mixing body forming the mold is made of 3o to 70% alumina, 6o to 2o%, practically pure Consists of iron and up to ro% copper. In particular, the tests have shown it to be expedient to make the mixing ratio of the individual components dependent on the wall thickness of the pieces to be cast in the mold. What is particularly important is the principle, which represents a further part of the invention, that the alumina content increases with decreasing wall thickness of the casting with approximately constant copper content or, conversely, increases with increasing wall thickness of the casting with approximately constant copper content or, conversely, is decreased with increasing wall thickness. This rule has the advantage, especially in the production of iron castings, that gray solidification is always achieved with certainty over the entire cross-section, since the casting mold increasingly takes on the character of a ceramic form as the wall thickness becomes thinner, in which the quenching of the outer layer of the Casting does not occur. On the other hand, account is taken of the fact that the greater the wall thickness of the casting, there is less shrinkage, which makes removal from the mold more difficult, for example in the case of elongated castings such as pipes. As a result of the reduction in the clay content proposed by the invention in the case of thicker walls, the casting mold receives a higher mechanical strength, which in these cases may be necessary for drawing the castings.
The invention goes further to the alumina content of the casting mold
forming mixed body comparatively increase when it comes to the generation
of iron castings with a Si content of up to about 1.91 / 9. In this way
succeeds in such an iron, which, as is well known, due to its pearlitic
Structure has a higher strength to bring it to gray solidification.
For the success aimed at with the invention, it is essential in
which way the individual components of the mixing body are prepared and
how the sintering of the molded articles is carried out. It is therefore an integral part
the invention to grind the alumina as finely as possible, while it is with the copper
What matters is to deform it as much as possible during the grinding process, so that a
Distortion of the crystal lattice is achieved, which leads to a higher voltage
and thus gives the opportunity to lower the sintering temperature. Important is
also that the surface of the copper is enlarged as much as possible by the deformation
so that the number of connection points with the iron as possible during sintering
reaches a maximum, which in turn increases the strength of the mixed body accordingly
is increased.
Finally, the pressed ones turned out to be advantageous
Body pre-glow at about goo ° C to remove tension and then
to sinter at about 100 ° C in a neutral atmosphere.
