Füllmaterial wird zum Schutz von Gegenständen gegen Beschädigung und Bruch im Innern von Verpackungen verwendet.Filling material is used to protect objects against damage and breakage inside packaging.
Die derzeit überwiegend eingesetzten Füllmaterialien sind geschäumte Kunststoffe, wie z.B. Styropor. Diese Kunststoffe besitzen den Nachteil, daß sie nur mit großem Aufwand recyclebar sind, bzw. bei einer Verbrennung in Müllverbrennungsanlagen durch giftige Schadstoffe zur Luftverschmutzung beitragen.The filling materials currently used are foamed plastics, such as Styrofoam.
