Gängige Tastaturen, z. B. an Telefonapparaten, sind in ihrer Größe für gesunde Menschen konstruiert. Viele ältere oder kranke und behinderte Menschen zittern aber mit den Händen so stark, daß es ihnen schwer fällt und häufig sogar unmöglich ist, die Tasten gezielt zu drücken und bespielsweise mühelos zu telefonieren. Beim Wählen treffen sie die Tasten nicht, weil diese Tasten für sie zu klein sind.Common keyboards, e.g. on telephones, are designed to be sized for healthy people.
