Description

Conventional keyboards for typewriters, computers, telephones, etc. have the disadvantage that the hands above the keyboard have to be held more or less in the air during operation and in a certain, slightly changing position, which leads to relatively rapid fatigue. Blind people have great difficulties because they have no fixed reference points for the hands. The invention aims to overcome these disadvantages. For this purpose, the keyboard according to the invention is characterized by a base plate with keys, on which base plate a support for supporting at least the hand is fixedly arranged in such a way that the fingers remain in their assigned position and the keys can be moved by moving the last two finger members .

With this design, the hand is assigned a fixed, constant reference point, which it does not have to leave during the operating process. Each finger used basically remains at its operating point, which enables blind, safe and fatigue-free actuation of one or more buttons per finger in a confined space. This eliminates longer distances for the fingers to hit the keys.

In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, several buttons are available at each operating point for a finger and can be operated in different directions, as a result of which they close electrical contacts. This creates a fundamentally new type of keyboard, in that many more keys can be operated with one hand than previously with two hands, which, among other things, enables one-handed typing. This arrangement is also extremely space-saving compared to conventional keyboards.

However, the input (or retrieval) capacity can be increased enormously if the base plate is mounted on a base plate that can be tilted by two tilting axes, with contacts being closed in the tilting positions in order to be able to trigger further functions or combinations of functions.

All contacts can be pressure or touch contacts, which can trigger or call up digital or analog single or multiple functions.

In the drawing, an embodiment of the invention is shown schematically.

Fig. 1 shows the essential parts of the keyboard from the side, partly in section - and
Fig. 2 is a schematically simplified top view of a two-handed keyboard.

The keyboard shown first has a base plate 1, on which a support 6 for supporting the hand H, possibly also a part of the forearm A, is firmly attached. The support can be provided in larger and smaller models for different hand sizes. In particular, e.g. by means of a casting process, individually shaped to suit the hand of the user, such that on the one hand fatigue-free operation of the keyboard and on the other hand a sufficiently firm connection of the hand to the base plate 1 is achieved.

At a suitable distance from the support 6, five operating points for the fingers F are provided in the base plate 1, which are simply called "points" in the following. For each hand there is a place 2 a for the thumb and four places 2 for the other fingers.

At each point 2 there are three buttons 3, 4, 5 which can be actuated in different directions, as a result of which they close electrical contacts. With 12 is also a recess for long fingernails. The last phalanx must move back, front or down to operate contacts 3, 4, 5. Lateral contacts could also be provided instead or in addition, but the spatial conditions must be taken into account in each case. This results in a reduction in movement distances, shorter stroke times and significantly less fatigue, even if three functions are optionally assigned to each fingertip.

The base plate 1 can now tilt by means of pressure shifting of the hand on a base plate 7 about two tilting axes 8, 9 (FIG. 2). In each of the four tilt positions, a further contact (two contacts 10, 11 are visible in FIG. 1) is closed in order to be able to trigger further functions or combinations of functions. Each of the four contacts can e.g. connect a new group of capacitors to the finger contacts of the relevant base plate.

The base plate 7 rests firmly on the base (table top or the like). All contacts can be pressure or touch contacts. Normally there are two symmetrical versions of the keyboard for the left or right hand, as shown in FIG. 2. If each point operates three contacts, there are 30 functions for both hands. With each of the eight tilting positions of both base plates, a further 30 functions or mixed combinations of functions can be selected, which results in a huge number of functions or capacities that go far beyond the possibilities of today's keyboards. The support 6 can then (depending on the tilting position) also serve as a "key" for the groups of contacts to be selected.

The new keyboard enables it to be operated comfortably and safely even by blind or one-handed users.

By means of cables 13, 14 and plugs 15, each keyboard can be used as an input or retrieval device for a wide variety of devices such as typewriters, computers but also, e.g. for blind dialing, at telephone stations and at fire service control stations etc. left and / or right-handed. A small-sized version is also conceivable, in which a radio telephone is integrated in the base plate, be it as a replacement for the person finder or as a car telephone.

The keyboard can also be built into the armrest of an armchair, which, when adjustable, allows optimal working comfort. This solution is particularly space-saving. An additional screen can be useful to display the selected 30 register.

An accidental selection of the register due to accidental striking can be prevented by installing a light barrier for one finger. Designs for the music industry are also conceivable.

However, the new keyboard could also be used to control medium-sized systems or machines or for the newspaper set of Far Eastern symbol fonts etc.
