Description
Covering compound when hardening steel When hardening workpieces Steel, especially when it comes to surface hardening, is often faced with the task of cutting edges, To protect the edges of recesses or the like from hardening. It occurs here that Endeavor to keep these soft _zu-hold areas before hardening with a protective To coat mass in an appropriate thickness, which both the workpiece parts against the heating or protects against the subsequent abrupt cut-off. The usage the commercially available refractory covering compounds that are used for similar purposes found, showed no satisfactory results in operational use. In particular during surface hardening by means of luminous gas oxygen and subsequent quenching or when heating workpiece surfaces by means of electrical heating devices and then quenching the heated zones, the following disadvantages occurred. The surface of these masses becomes glass-like brittle as a result of the heating. The flame pressure or = the pressure of the cooling water destroys this aasur and under certain circumstances rinses the Protective mass completely or partially away. It also happens that these masses fail adhere firmly to the workpiece and stand out from it during hardening "object The present invention is a mass that avoids these disadvantages and in the Hardening, especially when surface hardening, the covered areas sieher-Schtz offers. It has surprisingly been found that a The mass of the following composition meets the requirements: approx. 850/0 (scrubbing fields) -Glue sand, finely ground, about 12% Palatinate clay, finely ground, about 30/0 fluorspar, finely chopped, all components mixed together in a countercurrent mixer with about 10% liquid, consisting of about 75% water and about 25% sulphite liquor.
This mass retains sufficient toughness during hardening and becomes brittle so not and adheres firmly to the workpieces. She continues to offer the coated one Provide sufficient protection against the heating and cooling associated with hardening.
It should also be mentioned that this mass is also suitable for similar to the above mentioned purposes can be used, z. B. as a protective mass when cementing.
