Description

Alloy for saturators for distillation plants It is known that in the distillation gas, coke oven gas, town gas, etc. there is ammonia, which is considered valuable By-product applies and also because of its harmful effects on apparatus, pipelines, Gas meter etc. must be removed. Ammonia works in conjunction with oxygen very aggressive to metals in the presence of moisture. The corrosive property is caused by the simultaneous presence of hydrogen cyanide, nitrogen oxides and hydrogen sulfide reinforced. The apparatus most exposed to corrosion are those Ammonia saturator, because sulfuric acid, ammonia and mostly also the above Substances such as hydrogen cyanide and the like in the case of strong heat development in the ammonia saturator getting together. All metal alloys previously used to manufacture the saturators were destroyed prematurely after a few days.

It has now been found that a known alloy of C bis 0.3 0/0, Si 2 to 8%, Cr 2o to 30 '/ 0, Ni 2o to 50'10, Mo 3 to 15 0/0, Cu 2 to 12% and the remainder from iron are particularly suitable for the production of ammonia saturators well suited. The corrosion behavior of this alloy is as it has been for a long time Time-extended attempts were found, even in the lower limits the alloy is excellent.
