Während die, je nach Beschaffenheit des Filters 7, gröberen oder feineren, Schmutzpartikel durch den Filter 7 zurückgehalten werden, findet im Steigrohr die Kalkwandlung statt und es können sich, falls im Wasser vorhanden, kleinere Metallpartikel am Magneten absetzen. Durch diese Zwangsführung im Steigrohr ist gewährleistet, daß die im Wasser vorhandenen Kolloide von den Magnetfeldern in der Art beeinflußt werden, daß sich Kristallisationskerne bilden, die elektrisch neutral im Wasser in der Schwebe gehalten und mit dem Fließwasser ausgeschwemmt werden. Bei bestimmten Anwendungen kann es vorteilhaft sein, wenn im Gehäuse Aktivkohle oder Ionenaustauschermassen angeordnet sind. Die Reinigung des magnetischen Kalkwandlers und es vorgeschalteten Filters erfolgt sehr einfach durch Abschrauben des Gehäuses 5, Abziehen des Filterträgers 9 mit dem Filter 7 und des Steigrohres 8, worauf dann der stabförmige Magnet abgemolken werden kann. Zur Überwachung des Differenzdrucks zwischen Zulauf 1 und Ablauf 2 sind im Filterkopf 3 Manometer 11 angeordnet. Wird die Druckdifferenz zu groß, so ist der Filter zu reinigen.
