dampfförmigen Alkohol werden umfangreiche und kostspielige Vorrichtungen benötigt;
auch der Wärmeaufwand beeinflußt die Wirtschaftlichkeit.Process for the preparation of solutions of alkali alcoholates in alcohols
It is known for the production of solutions of alkali alcoholates in alcohols
Sodium amalgam from chlor-alkali electrolysis in contact with liquid alcohol
and bring the alkali metal-free mercury back into the electrolysis cell
to redirect. A perfect implementation can be achieved as a result of the peculiar
Properties of the amalgam, which is difficult to divide and to confluence
tends to be difficult to perform. At the known action of the amalgam on
For vaporous alcohol, bulky and expensive equipment is required;
the heat consumption also affects the economy.
It has been found that under certain conditions it succeeds with
simple devices to achieve a perfect conversion and alkali metal free
Obtain mercury. The process for the preparation of solutions of alkali alcoholates
in alcohols through the action of finely divided sodium amalgam from chlor-alkali electrolysis
on alcohols with the return of the alkali metal-free mercury to the electrolysis cell
consists essentially in the fact that the finely divided sodium amalgam in one with
a reaction vessel filled with up to 3 mm pieces of a catalyst
flowing alcohol is countered. In this way it succeeds in the supplied
Amalgam-containing mercury to dissolve into the smallest parts and the fine distribution
also to be maintained during the entire passage through the reaction vessel.
If the conditions of the method according to the invention are not met, so
If the amalgam is not distributed enough, it will converge to form a band of fluid
a so that the mercury
the reaction vessel at too great a speed
runs through and the reaction with the counter-flowing alcohol is insufficient.
On the other hand, if the amalgam is distributed too finely, the mercury will form dust
a, which prevents the regulated flow through the catalyst and to blockages
which cause local overheating and thus a disruption of the amalgam decomposition
to lead. It is only possible if the catalyst has a grain size of 2 to 3 mm
there, in the reaction vessel, such a fine distribution of the amalgam flowing downwards
to maintain that in a relatively small space permanently a perfect
The amalgam is converted into alcoholate with alcohol.
kommendes natriumamalgamhaltiges Quecksilber rieseln.
Alkoholats.-Feeding the amalgam into the top of the one filled with the catalyst
The reaction vessel is expediently carried out in such a way that nozzles with an opening of
i to 2 mm, with a nozzle distributing the amalgam over an area of about 165 cm2,
can be applied. The alcoholic alcohol solution leaves the reaction vessel at the top,
and the alkali metal-free mercury drains down below, whereupon it is returned to the electrolytic cell
is returned. The nozzles for supplying the amalgam are expedient
arranged above the drainage of the alcoholate solution, and the reaction vessel is
Only so high filled with the catalyst that the top layer is below the drain
of alcoholate ends. It arises in this way between the catalyst and the
Nozzles a layer of liquid through which the finely divided amalgam passes,
before it hits the catalyst. By doing this, the fine distribution
the amalgam is better maintained than if it were placed directly on the catalyst
impacts. It is also advantageous to have some of the from the reaction vessel above
to introduce the running alcoholate solution back into the reaction vessel below. It
this improves the reaction conditions and also increases the concentration
reached the alcoholate solution. A mixture is expediently used as the catalyst
of electrode graphite or activated carbon with metal chips., mainly made of iron.
The metal or iron content of the mixture is expediently about 10 to 20
° / o. This can significantly increase the effectiveness and service life of the catalytic converter
that it is temporarily activated with hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid. example
