Description
The invention relates to a method for producing a direct-positive image in an exposed one Halogen silver - emulsion layer by development.
Patent 2,497,875 discloses a process for making direct positive images in emulsions with latent internal grain structures by developing the exposed emulsion in an air curtain developer became known under the action of oxygen.
Furthermore, from the German patent specification 877 548 there is a method for developing direct positive images in an exposed latent inner grain image emulsion layer became known using hydrazine or certain hydrazine derivatives, in which no special ventilation is required for the production of the positive images.
According to the invention, naphthylhydrazine sulfonic acids are now used in the developer or in the emulsion layer for the production of direct-positive images in an emulsion with latent internal grain images used. These compounds are relatively non-toxic and enable manufacture satisfactory direct-positive images without the addition of oxidizing substances to the developer and without the use of special ventilation.
For the method according to the invention, gelatin-halosilver emulsions are, for example Silver bromide emulsions, silver bromide iodide emulsions
The emulsion does not need to be optically sensitized, although certain dyes are used for optical May contain awareness raising or promoting the reverse effect. The emulsion shouldn't should be digested, or if it is, digestion should be done without the use of sulfur sensitizers be performed. An emulsion of this artist, for example, the so-called Burton emulsion, as described in "Photographic-Emulsions" by Wall, 1929, pp. 52 and 53.
Latente Innenkornbildemulsionen, d. h. Latent internal grain forming emulsions, d. H. Emulsions in which the latent image is mainly is formed within the halogen silver grains and how they are e.g. B. in "The Theory of the Photographic Process "von Mees", 1942, pp. 296 and 297, are for the processes according to "the Invention particularly suitable.
Most of the latent internal grain formation emulsions are bromiodide silver emulsions with a high iodide content, preferably with at least 10 to 20% iodide, based on the total amount of halogen silver. The Burton emulsion is an emulsion of this type. Its silver iodide content is approximately 40% of the halogen silver content. However, the emulsion need not necessarily contain silver iodide.
An internal grain latent forming emulsion such as is "disclosed in British Patent 635,841 (Davey and Knott) can also be used in the methods according to the invention, however, contrary to the instructions given there, the emulsions also have a silver iodide content of more than 6%.
The type of emulsion for generating latent inner grain images is generally understood to be one that exhibits the greatest blackening when exposed under an intensity scale for a specific time between 1 AoO and ι second and after 4 minutes of treatment in a conventional surface image developer of 20 ° (developer I) (density) shows that is not greater than a fifth of the largest density, which is achieved when the same emulsion exposed in the same way and 3 minutes at 20 0 is treated with an inner particle image developer (developer II). In general, the maximum density (density) achieved with the surface image developer is no greater than one tenth of the maximum density achieved when the same emulsion is treated with the internal grain image developer. Conversely, an internal grain latent image emulsion, when treated with an internal grain image developer (Developer II), exhibits a maximum density of at least five times and generally at least ten times the maximum density achieved when the same emulsion is used in the same Way exposed and treated with a surface image developer (Developer I).
Gemäß der Erfindung wird nun die latente Innenkornbiidemulsionsschicht belichtet und dann unmittelbar in eine Entwicklerlösung für belichtetesAccording to the invention, there is now the inner grain latent bio-emulsion layer exposed and then immediately in a developer solution for exposed

In the process according to the invention, the usual phenol or aminophenol developers, such as N-methyl-p-aminophenol sulfate, hydroquinone, pyrocatechol, 2-methylhydroquinone, 2-chlorohydroquinone, p-aminophenol and pyrrogallol, are suitable as developers. When the naphthylhydrazine-sulfonic acid used in the developer, should this, depending on the effectiveness of the hydrazine compound, a pH value from 8.5 to 13 have. In most hydrazine compounds, a pH value of 10 is preferred to 12th

Although the reverse effect achieved by the method according to the invention for its generation requires neither a movement of the developer nor the presence of oxidizing substances, it can be assumed that that the blackening achieved is due to the action of atmospheric oxygen. The active one Compound resulting from the hydrazine compound appears to have high stability in the developer solutions to have. A brief exposure to atmospheric oxygen is sufficient to achieve blackening without this continued ventilation would have to be applied. The process therefore offered significant advantages in the so-called deep tank development.
