Device for registering the intensity of neutron radiation
The invention relates to a device for registering the intensity of a
Neutron radiation, in which the neutrons on a reaction layer, for example
Lithium, boron, cadmium or gadolinium, made up of charged particles
or trigger gamma rays. According to the invention, this secondary radiation
a preferably immediately adjacent fluorescent screen excites its radiation
is used to release slow electrons from a photocathode, which, preferably
after their multiplication, arrive at the measurement. This neutron cell has before the
known dosimeters for measuring the intensity of neutron radiation have the advantage of
that it is much more sensitive, especially when triggered from the photocathode
Electrons do not reach the measurement immediately, but only after multiplication.

Embodiment of the neutron cell according to the invention.
Those emanating from a neutron source 2 are released from the reaction layer i

In the illustrated embodiment, the luminescent screen 3 is on the outside

The last two layers mentioned or only the luminescent screen can also be used in the

Since the neutron radiation easily passes through heavy metal,
there is no difficulty in passing through a container $ whose wall absorbs the neutron radiation

Seite, die Photokathode i i enthält.
In the arrangement according to FIG. 2, the luminescent screen 9 is located on the outside of the wall io of the vacuum vessel which, preferably on the opposite side, contains the photocathode ii. The electrode 12 serves to collect the electrons emanating from the photocathode. Instead of the collecting electrode i2, however, a multiplier arrangement can also be provided in a manner similar to that shown in FIG. So while in the arrangement according to FIG. 1 the light enters the photocathode from the side facing away from the vacuum space, in the arrangement according to FIG. 2 it strikes the surface of the photocathode facing the vacuum space. A reflective layer 13 can be provided between the luminescent screen 9 and the reaction layer 14, which is transparent to the secondary radiation emanating from the reaction layer, but reflects the radiation of the luminescent screen in such a way that it penetrates the luminescent substance and reaches the photocathode ii. The arrangements shown have the advantage that commercially available photocells can also be used to produce the neutron cell. They are provided with a luminescent screen coating, which in turn carries a reaction layer or contains a substance that emits charged particles or gamma rays under the influence of the neutrons to be registered. It is also possible, with an appropriate shape, for example a cylindrical shape of the neutron cell, to make the luminescent screen and / or the reaction layer, including a carrier usually necessary in this case, exchangeable in a simple manner. In this way the same device can be used to measure neutrons of different speeds. For example, a reaction layer made of boron is used to measure slow neutrons, and a hydrogen-containing reaction layer, for example paraffin, from which hydrogen particles are ejected, which excite the fluorescent screen, is used to measure fast neutrons.
