Description

Lead bearing metal In patent 748 254, lead bearing metals containing alkali and alkaline earth metals are described, which are composed of 0.6o to 0.75 %, preferably over 0.7% calcium, at least 0.2%, preferably at least 0.35% Barium and / or strontium, up to an upper limit of 0.6%, preferably up to 0.55% for each of the two metals, 0.25 to 0.25% sodium, 0.0 oz up to 0.2 % aluminum, the remainder lead. The alloys can also contain 0.1 oz to 0.05% potassium.

These alloys are characterized by a high level of resistance Hardness from hot storage and have a compared to the known alkaline and Lead bearing metals containing alkaline earth metals are particularly easy to remelt. They are losing only little hardness even with frequent remelting.

It has now been found that these alloys gain in hardness by adding up to z% cadmium, preferably above 0.5% cadmium, and that these alloys with increased hardness also retain the good remeltability and low heat hardening of the alloys of the main patent. The higher hardness achieved by adding cadmium is resistant to prolonged heating and more frequent remelting. The corrosion resistance of the alloy is also not adversely affected by the addition of cadmium.

The cadmium-containing alloys can be used in particular for purposes at which a higher hardness appears to be desirable even without heat treatment will.
