KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The subject of the present invention is a device which serves to create spirals
of oval cross-section made of wire of any thickness or round iron, such as those used for the production of
Chains are used to wind in unlimited length, so that they are in separate links
can be separated from each other by the exact shape.
In the drawing, Fig. 1 is a fully wound spiral, Fig. 2 is a separated from this
Chain link in two views, Fig. 3 and 4 is the winding device at the beginning
the work in longitudinal section and in front view, while FIG. 5 is a longitudinal section through this
Device shows when the work is already advanced.
The winding device consists of an oval mandrel D, which rotates around its axis, but is secured against longitudinal displacement. It rotates in a fixed screw nut M with the same pitch as the finished spiral (Fig. 1) is supposed to have. Thus, the wire can be comprehended from the mandrel is to the latter a short screw thread S is pushed, which embraces and 1 to 1 1 J 2 transition, an equal to the cross section of the dome hole has, it DAF on the same slide, but can not rotate . The threaded piece S will therefore, when it is inserted into the nut, screw through the same as the mandrel rotates and slide on the mandrel until it finally falls out of the former and from the latter at the end of the nut and the mandrel. The thread piece has a hook-like nose S 1 at the end of its passage, into which the similarly shaped end of the wire fits. If the end of the wire K is hooked behind the nose S 1 after S has partially penetrated the nut, the wire is drawn into the thread as it is turned further, wrapping itself around the mandrel. As a result, the spiral receives the pitch of the female thread and an inner cross-section equal to that of the dome. If the threaded piece S 1 has emerged from the nut, it is unnecessary, because the spiral wound around the oval mandrel in several turns now offers so much resistance that the wire is continuously pulled through the thread of the nut even without the aid of the threaded piece . All that is needed to produce a wire spiral of any length is a short, non-advancing mandrel and a short threaded nut. The threaded piece S 1, on the other hand, only serves to initiate the winding.
