Lagern leicht in wasserunlösliche, basische Aluminiumverbindungen überzugehen.
A. Stark (Berichte der Deutschen Chemischen Gesellschaft, 1926. B.d. 59,
Decorative processes for the production of highly concentrated aqueous solutions of basic aluminum formate It is known to produce aluminum formates by reacting moist aluminum hydroxide with 95% formic acid by careful evaporation on a water bath. This gives an aluminum triformate which, after its preparation, is water-soluble, but has the property of easily converting into water-insoluble, basic aluminum compounds on storage. In addition, it is a prerequisite that the aluminum hydroxide reacts with formic acid in the freshly precipitated or in an unstored state. According to R. Weinland and A. Stark (Reports of the German Chemical Society, 1926. Vol 59, p. 478) , a basic form is formed when freshly precipitated aluminum hydroxide is reacted with goo / oiger formic acid and then evaporated on a water bath and dried over sulfuric acid Diformate with the composition Al (OH) (HCOO) Z. The aluminum formates are primarily of textile-chemical importance and are also obtained for these purposes by reacting aluminum salts with alkali or alkaline earth formates. For the technical preparation of a water-soluble, basic aluminum formate, the procedure is also that water-poor aluminum formate solutions are atomized in the heat. Temporary soluble products are formed here, which, however, especially in solutions, tend to precipitate out of these as poorly soluble, basic aluminum formates.
The known methods thus allow the production of, at least
temporary, water-soluble formates of aluminum. A precondition is here
however, that at least 2 moles of formic acid per i Al .Atom are used. in the

It has now been found that highly concentrated and persistent solutions
of low-acid aluminum formats, which are particularly suitable for textile-chemical and also
pharmaceutical purposes have meaning, can be obtained by using aluminum hydroxide
in aqueous colloidal distribution, advantageously as a sol, at elevated temperature
reacts with formic acid in such an amount that on i Al atom. at most .2
Moles of formic acid. So it can go beyond the well-known aluminum diformate
Higher basic aluminum formates can also be obtained, their solutions in water itself
at A12 03 concentrations above .200 / a are extremely stable by, for example
only o, 8 or 1.5 mol of formic acid per atom of Al with an aluminum hydroxide sol
Implementation. A criterion for the chemical reaction of the acid with the colloidal one
Aluminum hydroxide is the heat that corresponds to the formation of water. Advantageous
Highly concentrated aluminum hydroxide sols with an A1203 are used as the starting material

Verfahren erhaltenen Aluminiumformiatlösungen, trotz ihres hohen Gehaltes an
erfahren, ergeben beim Erkalten feste Gallerten.
Beispiel In io 1 1,5 n-Salzsäure
portionsweise io kg Aluminium-sek.-butylat eingetragen.
Particularly striking is the property of the aluminum formate solutions obtained by the claimed process, despite their high A120 content, of being relatively low in viscosity, which is extremely valuable for the technical processing of the solutions. According to the invention, this low viscosity is only obtained when the reaction of the formic acid with the aluminum hydroxide sol takes place at an elevated temperature, advantageously above 50 °. Products reacted at room temperature, which only experience the temperature increase corresponding to the exothermic reaction, result in solid jelly when cooled. If, however, these jellies are subsequently heated to about goe with vigorous stirring, liquid and stable solutions that can be used, for example, for textile-chemical purposes, are obtained again after cooling. The solutions also have a high storage stability, wherein assuming that the excess colloidal Aluminiumoxyddihvdrat AI "03 -. 2 H20 serves as a protective colloid for the basic Aluminiumformiate accordance with the invention can be obtained so even less when using formic acid levels even highly concentrated basic Aluminiumformiatlösungen high stability This is. A formic acid saving of at least 33a / 0, generally up to 66% and more, is possible. Furthermore, extremely highly concentrated and stable solutions of basic aluminum formates can be obtained from the reaction products of the colloidal aluminum hydroxide with formic acid by careful evaporation of water, which even with an A1203 Content of a5 to 30% are still liquid. Even after prolonged storage for several months, the solutions do not solidify. When the solutions are further concentrated, for example by atomization or by vacuum roller drying Glassy, solid products that are extremely stable and can easily be redissolved in water to form solutions of the highest concentration, these solutions again showing the same favorable properties in terms of viscosity and the like as the starting solutions of the basic aluminum format. EXAMPLE 10 kg of aluminum sec-butoxide are introduced in portions into 10 1 1.5 N hydrochloric acid at a temperature of about 80 ° with vigorous stirring over the course of 3 hours. The secondary butyl alcohol released during the reaction is recovered by distillation, the amount of water evaporating azeotropically with the alcohol being continuously replaced. The clear aluminum hydroxide sol with an Al 2 O content of about 20% obtained in this way is mixed with 1.55 kg of 85% strength formic acid while sowing while stirring, a rise in temperature being observed. A solution of basic aluminum formate is obtained, which is brought to a .25% A120 content by careful evaporation. In this highly concentrated form, the product can be stored and, due to its small footprint, is particularly suitable for shipping.
