Amer. Chem. Soc. 69, rigg [19q.7]) durch Umsetzung
von Lithiumhydrid mit ätherischen Lösungen vonAluminiumchlorid gewinnen
q. LOH + AIC13 .a. UAIH, T 3 LiCl. (i)
Stahl erforderlich. Trotz aller Vorsichtsmaßnahmen (Arbeiten in trockener Stickstoffatmosphäre)
macht.Process for the preparation of lithium bromide-containing ethereal solutions of lithium aluminum hydride Lithium aluminum hydride (UAIH9), which has recently become more and more important for hydrogenation purposes, can be found according to Finholt, Bond and Schlesinger (Journ. Amer. Chem. Soc. 69, rigg [19q.7]) ) by reacting lithium hydride with ethereal solutions of aluminum chloride q. LOH + AIC13 .a. UAIH, T 3 LiCl. (i)
However, this method of representation has a number of major disadvantages, the three main of which are listed below: i. The conversion between lithium hydride and aluminum chloride only takes place if the lithium hydride is in the finest powdered state. Since the lithium hydride is obtained in large pieces during the synthesis from the elements and these pieces are characterized by particularly great hardness, expensive special mills made of specially hardened steel are required for grinding the lithium hydride. Despite all precautionary measures (working in a dry nitrogen atmosphere), considerable losses of the expensive starting material cannot be avoided with this procedure, quite apart from the fact that the fine grinding takes a long time, requires careful eye protection due to the aggressive nature of the lithium hydride dust and frequent due to the hardness of the material Requires repairs to the grinder.
The very finely powdered lithium hydride must be used before the reaction with aluminum chloride
for some time with one manufactured according to a special process as an initial fuse
serving lithium aluminum hydride can be stirred in the absence of the primer
suddenly after an unreactive incubation period
entering
to avoid explosive course of the strongly exothermic reaction. This manufacture
the primer requires additional time and is also not always effective,
because in many cases the reaction does not occur, for reasons that are not yet clear, despite the initiator
starts, only to start with explosive violence.
So tritt häufig örtlicher
The reaction between lithium hydride and aluminum chloride requires
a large (-5o%) excess of lithium hydride, since that formed, in ether
insoluble lithium chloride, in part, lithium hydride, which is also insoluble in ether
covered and thus prevents the further reaction with aluminum chloride and there at
the fine division of the lithium hydride partially previous. Oxidation with formation
ether-insoluble surface layers cannot be avoided. So it often occurs more locally
Loss of lithium hydride, which leads to the formation of aluminum hydride or chlorine derivatives
of aluminum hydride and thus reduces the yield of lithium aluminum hydride
or even destroyed.
4 LiH -I-- AlBr3 --#'LiAIH,, T 3 LiBr . (2)
All of the disadvantages mentioned can be eliminated in one fell swoop if the aluminum chloride is replaced by aluminum bromide 4 LiH -I-- AlBr3 - # 'LiAIH ,, T 3 LiBr. (2)
i. In this case, the lithium hydride does not need to be finely powdered, since even pea-sized to hazelnut-sized pieces, and if the reaction time is prolonged, even larger pieces dissolve smoothly in the essential aluminum bromide solution with the formation of lithium aluminum hydride. The laborious crushing and grinding work is no longer necessary. It is sufficient to crush larger pieces with a hammer on a steel plate without a nitrogen atmosphere, as in the old process this also had to be done in the mill before powdering.
Ignition is superfluous as the reaction does not need any initial ignition
starts immediately. In addition, explosive reactions are excluded because the
Heat development of reaction (2) because of the greater stability of the aluminum bromide ether
is much less than the heat of reaction (i). 3. An excess
of lithium hydride is not required, since the reaction (2) takes place quantitatively,
so that stoichiometric amounts can be used as the starting material. Besides
the ether solubility of lithium bromide prevents surface coverage of
unreacted lithium hydride. The lithium bromide content of the essential lithium aluminum hydride solutions
does not interfere with the hydrogenation syntheses, since lithium bromide is an inert salt
not involved in the implementation.
in 750 ccm Äther gelöst.
Ausbeute:
37 g LiAIH, = über 97 °/o der Theorie. The replacement of aluminum chloride by aluminum bromide thus represents a significant advance in the preparation of lithium aluminum hydride. Example 267 g of AlBr3 (1 mol) are dissolved in 750 cc of ether in small portions while cooling with ice-salt. In a 2 liter three-necked flask equipped with a stirrer, reflux condenser and dropping funnel, 33 g (4. × MOI) of coarsely ground LiH (pea to hazelnut size) and 250 cc of ether are placed. The ether is heated to boiling on the water bath and the AlBr3 solution is quickly added dropwise from the dropping funnel while stirring over the course of 1 to 2 hours. The reaction mixture is then refluxed for a further 3 to 4 hours with stirring. On cooling, the partially precipitated LiBr settles quickly, while some grains of unreacted LiH float on the clear solution. By decanting through a funnel provided with a little glass wool, a clear LiAIH4 solution, saturated with LiBr, is obtained. Yield: 37 g LiAlH, = over 97 % of theory.
