The invention (new electronic development) relates to an electrical switching device that automatically switches low-voltage systems, e.g. the lighting of signal panels and intercom systems, residential buildings or parking lights on motor vehicles, on or off when the brightness falls below or exceeds an adjustable value.
When it became compulsory in West Berlin 3 years ago to illuminate house numbers in the streets, such switches were developed in various designs. These are used to switch 230 V light bulbs on and off. They are supplied as integrated switches in lamp sockets or as separate switch boxes. In the simplest design (type A), these switches use a bimetal relay in a normally closed contact circuit, which receives its switching current directly from a photoresistor (2). In the more complex design (type B), a thyristor or triac is used for switching, which is controlled via a separate circuit with a photoresistor (2). For the low voltage range (12 V direct current), a fully electronic twilight switch (T ρ C) is known as a parking light switch, in which the photoresistor is in a conventional bridge circuit, with which the twilight switching point can be set. The bridge voltage controls the switching of the lamps via an operational amplifier in the usual differential circuit and a downstream Darlington power transistor (3).
The disadvantage of the twilight switches developed so far is that the above-mentioned types A and B can only be used for a mains voltage of 230 V, while type C is designed for low voltage, but only for the 12 V direct current of car batteries. This means that none of the aforementioned twilight switches can be used in their intended main application area with 12 V alternating current. In addition, the low-voltage switch has no switching delay. In addition, no provision has been made for types B and C to automatically switch to the switched-on state in the event of a fault. Type A does have this necessary fuse for faults, but has its own relatively high energy consumption when it is bright and switched off.
The invention (new electronic development) was designed to eliminate the main disadvantage of the known twilight switches mentioned above and to develop a switching device that can be used in the voltage range of 10-20 V AC. This should cover the voltage range for low-voltage mains transformers with a nominal voltage of 12 V, which can occur between full load and idle during operation. The switching device should be simple in design, have small installation dimensions and automatically switch to the switched-on operating state in the event of a fault. In addition, a switching delay of several seconds should be built in, which prevents switching off in the dark if the sensor (photoresistor) is hit by the light of a moving light source, e.g. a motor vehicle driving past the installation site.
The task was solved by obtaining the operating voltage for the switching device via a bridge rectifier. The voltage protection required here is achieved by a Zener diode circuit. The input bridge circuit with a operational amplifier known from the above-mentioned Type C has been retained in principle. However, a modern micro-relay with a normally closed contact is used to switch the circuits for the lighting lamps, which is specially designed for combination with an operational amplifier in order to achieve the required delay time. The operational amplifier is connected as an integrator. For the time constant required for this, two simple electrolytic capacitors are connected against each other, which allows an overall space-saving arrangement. The components can be accommodated on a relatively small circuit board, which is coated with an insulating protective layer in the immersion bath to protect against moisture. The preferred embodiment (AC version) is characterized in claims 1 to 6.

The connection of the other alternating voltage, the two lamp circuits and the photoresistor from the sensor is made via a 6-pin connection terminal. The board with the components shown in L is provided with a protective coating against magnetic influences. The circuit diagram shown in drawing 5 describes the preferred AC version of the twilight switch. In another embodiment for pure DC operation, the bridge rectifier (9) and the Zener diode circuit (10) are omitted.
According to the operating data, the twilight switch according to the invention can be used for an alternating voltage range of 10 to 20 V and also in a temperature range of -20 to +60 0 C. The combination of an electronic amplifier module with a selected electronic micro-relay allows a compact circuit board to be produced at relatively low cost, which can be covered with an insulating layer to protect against moisture. This makes it possible to use it outdoors, e.g. on front doors.
The small, compact design allows the switch housing to be installed in practically any doorbell panel. The sensor can be installed with its housing ((1) in M) like a bell button from the outside in any panel or dashboard. The switching delay of about 5s reliably prevents the panel lighting from being switched off when light from a moving light source (e.g. car headlights) falls on the sensor.
