Process for finishing cork stoppers It is known that often
Bottle corks give rise to cloudiness and that especially in the beverage industry,
For example, in the case of wine, sparkling wine and fruit juices and the like, the products have a cork odor
and the taste of the cork can be impaired and possibly even spoil completely
can. In addition, the front side or cork tends, especially in damp cellars
to get moldy, or the corks are attacked by the cork moth, causing
The contents of the bottle can also be impaired.
mit Acrylestern sowie auch Cellulosederivate, z. B. Celluloseester oder -äther;
It has now been found that bottle corks can be refined and free from
the risk of the aforementioned impairments occurring if one
their upper and lower side as well as a short piece of the adjacent cylinder surfaces
with an odorless, tasteless and physiologically indifferent film-forming film
Fabric covers. Suitable film-forming substances are, for example, indifferent
Solvents such as ethyl alcohol, ethyl acetate or acetone, soluble polyamides, polyvinyl compounds,
for example polyvinyl esters, and copolymers of vinyl esters or vinyl halides
with acrylic esters as well as cellulose derivatives, e.g. B. cellulose esters or ethers;
also film-forming substances that are relatively thin-bodied at elevated temperatures
Melts result, for example polyamides or polyethylene, are suitable.
The corks are essentially only on the top and bottom
and in each case a short distance on the adjacent cylinder surfaces, d. H. from the top
and lower edge, provided with the coating. You can do this in solutions
or melts of said film-forming substances are immersed. It is enough that
a very thin coating is applied to the cork to protect it and
in order to
also protect the contents of the bottles. The corks own on a large part
their cylindrical surfaces the natural texture; can swell and so
adapt to the bottle neck and secure closure and protection against leakage
of the contents of the bottle. The lower side of the cork is through the one located on it
Coating completed against the liquid level, so that cork diseases and
so that any adverse effects on the taste or smell of the contents of the bottle do not appear
can. The upper part of the cork that comes into contact with the air is through
the cover protected.
As most of the named film-forming substances against mold
are resistant, mold formation is practically impossible. Also can
the. Cover can be easily washed off. A drying out of the cork or penetration
of cork moths is also practically impossible. By applying the cover
according to the invention it is even possible to use less good 'cork material,
without any dangers in terms of taste impairment or even spoilage
of the contents of the bottle. Example A cork is made into a solution of a mixed polyamide
from approximately equal parts of caprolactam and adnpinsaurem aexamethylenediamine in ethyl alcohol
with the mirror side q. immersed to a depth of 5 mm. Allow to dry, d. H. the
Evaporate the solvent. Then you dive the opposite side of the mirror
also about q to 5 mm deep in the solution and let it dry. After evaporation
the solvent remains firmly adhering to the dipped parts of the cork
closed film. The cylinder surface in between remains untreated. Of the
Cork can be pressed into bottles with the cork machine in the usual way
will. It offers reliable protection against spoilage of the contents of the bottles,
especially for highly sensitive liquids such as wine, sparkling wine, fruit juices and the like.
Instead of dipping the cork in the aforementioned polyamide solution, it can
Solution can also be applied by brushing onto the cork.
