The invention relates to a method for producing ignition pins for discharge vessels, in particular for those with a liquid cathode, with a holding part made of graphite and a main part containing boron carbide, which is immersed in the cathode and whose components are in powder form with the solid Graphite existing holding part are sintered together. In the method according to the invention, the powder is pressed together with the holding part in a mold, preferably made of graphite or carbon, which at the same time serves as a current-carrying furnace for sintering. When the powder is compressed, the density is increased to about three times the value. However, the compression ratio depends within wide limits on the fineness of the powder. It has proven to be particularly expedient to choose the loose powder for producing the main part in a layer adjoining the holding part, preferably 0.5 to z mm thick, in boron higher than the rest of the powder. It is particularly favorable to produce this layer from pure boron.
Graphit bestehende Halteteil a gerade passend eingeführt wird.

The drawing shows exemplary embodiments in a partially schematic representation

During the sintering of the powder with the holding part occurs in the

of the powder with the stovepipe. It is therefore usually not possible to use the stovepipe
to be used multiple times. The stovepipe is usually mechanical after it has cooled down
must destroy and the stovepipe particles sticking to the ignition pin

i : i bis io : i. It is expedient to use a powder as the powder for producing the main part
Mixture of boron carbide with boron nitride, preferably in a weight ratio of
i: i to io: i. Sintering is best carried out at between 160 and 200 ° C.
Since the boron carbide can be obtained from boron and carbon at high temperature, a mixture of boron and carbon can also be used in place of boron carbide in the manufacture of the main part. For example, a mixture of boron, carbon and boron nitride with a weight ratio of 43:17:40 is particularly suitable for producing the main part. In addition to boron carbide, silicon carbide can also be used to produce the main part. However, it is advisable not to replace more than half of the specified amounts of boron carbide with silicon carbide. With this selection of the mixing ratio, the finished firing pin contains silicon carbide in addition to the boron carbide, at most in the same amount by weight.

mit Quecksilberkathode, sondern auch für Entladungsgefäße mit fester Kathode, beispiels-The firing pin made by the method according to the invention
