Description

Process for avoiding the formation of cracks on rolled sections made of Thomasstahl It has been observed on various occasions that ß rolled sections made of Thomasstahl, z. B. B. riding flange girders or sheet piles, in the event of cold stress from straightening, Bending, cutting, etc. tend to clad cracks, which in further processing or use can lead to breakage. This disadvantageous property has led to that Tho @ masstahl may not be used for some purposes. For examination the question of whether it could be an embrittlement due to aging was raised tries to bring about an improvement by adding aluminum. These attempts but have remained unsuccessful. However, the crack formation was avoided when steels that have been largely deoxidized with aluminum after rolling into profiles subjected to normalizing annealing. However, this treatment is cumbersome and urgent. There are special facilities such as annealing furnaces and the like. necessary. The performance of these facilities is small, and the annealed profiles require some of the News.

The method according to the invention eliminates all of these disadvantages in a simple way to avoid them. The, method consists in that, ß rolled sections, z. B. wide flange girders or sheet piles, from Thomasistahl, the largely z. B. has been deoxidized with aluminum, at temperatures between A3 and A1 are finish-rolled. Rolled profiles made of Thomas steel produced in this way can be processed cold by straightening, bending and the like without any effort To show cracking.
