Flat keys, especially for cylinder locks

The invention relates to a flat key, in particular for cylinder locks/ consisting of a key shaft and a pivotable key handle made of elastic material, whereby the pivot bearing is formed by transverse extensions that extend from the two key sides of the key shaft and are non-circular in cross-section, and bearing recesses in the key handle that accommodate them, and the key handle has a shaft pivoting niche that is adapted to the shaft width.

Such a flat key is known from DE-Gm 1 950 132, whereby the key handle, viewed in the longitudinal direction of the key shaft, is U-profiled. The U-profile is formed by the key handle having two walls running parallel to one another, which are connected to one another in their apex area. The key shaft, which has the transverse extensions, is pushed into the U-shaped interior from the rear. A filler piece is also used to secure the inserted position. Elastically flexible plastic is used to manufacture the key handle plus the filler piece, so that, for example, when used in motor vehicles, the key handle cannot act as a dangerous cutting or chisel when higher forces occur. Form a shaft pivoting recess adapted to the shaft width so that a hinged connection of the key shaft is provided in both directions. Since in such a case the transverse processes are strongly rounded, there is no defined position of use, which turns out to be a complicating feature when locking with such a key. One variant listed in this utility model consists in a springy tongue protruding into the pivoting recess of one side wall. Pivoting the key handle towards the key shaft is therefore only possible in one direction. In the other direction this tongue represents a resistance. If you still pivot in this other direction, this can lead to the pliers breaking off. The possibility is then suggested that each side wall forms a tongue reaching into the shaft pivoting recess in order to stabilize the position of the key shaft in relation to the handle. Defined 90' swivel divisions to the right hand shaft cannot be achieved at this rate.

The object of the invention is to improve the handling and safety of ^a flat key of the type in question while maintaining a simple structure.

This task is solved in the case of a flat key of this type by clamping the transverse extensions between the spring-loaded walls of the key handle, which have external bearing recesses.

As a result of such a design, a generic flat key with increased utility value is specified. It solves the problem that flat keys, such as lock cylinders on desks, oil troughs, display cabinets, etc., are left standing in the room and can easily be broken off by passing people. When used as intended, the key shaft and key handle extend in one direction and have sufficient stability for torque transmission. If transverse loads act on the key handle protruding above the lock cylinder, the key handle bends slightly, so that no injuries or damage to clothing occur. The flat key according to the invention is simple in its construction. The corresponding components are only the key shaft forming the transverse extensions and the key handle. Additional parts can be omitted. The springy walls of the key handle determine the force required to allow the sole handle to bend relative to the key shaft. Defined angle positions are also achieved. The springy walls, in conjunction with the cross-sections that are not round, lead to an automatic locking after the key handle has traveled a certain pivoting distance relative to the key shaft. The advantages lead to a flat key design that is easier to handle and safer.

To achieve three 90' positions of the sole of the wrench relative to the wrench handle, it is advantageous if the transverse processes are rectangular in cross-section. To ensure that greater forces are required to bend the wrench handle relative to the wrench shaft, the width of each transverse process is smaller than its depth. The advantage of the cream applicator effect is not lost as a result.

The manufacture of the key handle is simplified by the fact that the key handle has a slot extending from the front end facing the key shaft to form the springy handles. The key shaft can therefore also be inserted from this front end. The slot also allows the key handle to pivot relative to the key shaft in the plane of the key shaft when there is a greater load on it, which further increases the security value of the flat key.

The key shaft is given positional stability relative to the key handle by the bearing recesses being formed by crystalline recesses on the inside of the spring walls that are adapted to the dimensions of the transverse processes. The bearing recesses prevent both

For example, in the position in which the flat key is in use, the key handle can be rotated in the longitudinal plane of the key shaft using normal operating forces. This is only possible when a greater load is applied to the key handle to bring about the desired displacement of the handle.

Finally, it is also advantageous from a manufacturing point of view that the SahlUesel handle is designed as a one-piece injection-molded plastic part. The manufacturing costs for a corresponding key can therefore be kept very low.

The flat key, designated as a whole with the number 1, consists of a key shaft 2 and a key handle 3.

In detail, the key shaft 2 has a key back 4 and the narrow control edge 6 opposite it, which is provided with locking notches 5. The key shaft 2 runs into an end 7 that penetrates into the key handle 3, from the narrow sides of which transverse extensions 8 and 9 extend, which are not round in cross section. From Fig. 3 it is particularly clear that the width B of each extension 8, 9 is smaller than its depth T.

The key shaft end 7 is located in a shaft pivoting recess 10, which extends from the front end 11 of the key handle 3 facing the key shaft 2. A slot 12 is also machined into this front end. This extends in the longitudinal center plane. The depth S of the slot 12 corresponds to approximately 2/3 of the length L of the key handle 3 running in the locking direction.

Two parallel walls 13, 14 are created in the central slot 12, which are arranged in a spring-loaded manner relative to one another due to the manufacture of the key handle from the appropriate plastic. From Fig. 3 it can be seen that the width x of the slot 12 is smaller than the thickness y of the key shaft, and there is a ratio between y and x of approximately 2:1.

On their inner sides, the resilient walls 13, 14 have bearing recesses 15, 16 directed transversely to the longitudinal direction of the key shaft 2, which are formed by channel-like depressions V adapted to the dimensions of the transverse extensions 8, 9. The width of the depressions V corresponds to the depth T of the transverse extensions 8, 9, so that when the key shaft 2 and key handle 3 are put together, the transverse extensions 8, 9 fit positively into the channel-like depressions. The key handle 3 is secured in position relative to the key shaft 2 in a double-arrow direction by the material sections 17, 18 arranged in front of the bearing recesses 15, 16, which are placed in front of the shoulder edges of the end 7 of the key shaft 2.

It can also be seen from the figures that the bearing recesses 15,16 begin at a distance from the front end 11 which corresponds approximately to the thickness y of the key shaft 2.

As illustrated in Fig. 2, the key handle 3 has a floor plan of a double trapezoid, the individual trapezoids of which originate from a common base A-A.

In the single trapezoid opposite the key shaft 2, a recess 19 is provided that runs parallel to the slot 12. It extends at a distance from the bottom of the slot 12 and serves to assign the flat key to a key ring etc.

The key shaft 2 is inserted into the key handle 3 from the front end 11 of the lanyard holder 3, by slightly spreading the handles 13, 14. As soon as the extensions 8, 9 have reached the bearing recesses 15, 16, there is a stable connection between the key shaft 2 and the key handle 3. This is the position of use in which the locking is carried out. Due to the positive connection between the transverse extensions 8, 9 and the recesses V on the inner threads of the spring walls 13, 14, there is sufficient stability for torque transmission.

For example, it can happen that intentional or unintentional lateral bending loads are exerted on the key handle 3. This leads to it bending into the position shown in Fig. 4, but not to the key handle detaching from the key shaft. The greatest spread

The walls 13, 14 are tightened when the diagonally opposite edges of the transverse extensions are engaged. After moving through a 90" swivel angle, the recesses V lie flat against the corresponding walls of the transverse extensions 8, 9, creating a snapping effect. The key handle is returned from the bent position by applying a load in the opposite direction. The bent position of the key handle can be used, for example, if the key should not protrude too far over the lock cylinder after the lock has been operated.

All new features mentioned in the description and shown in the drawing are essential to the invention, even if they are not expressly claimed in the claims.
