Description
Methods of treating, in particular for preserving fishing nets, Ship ropes and the like. It is known fishing nets, especially those used in deep sea fishing Usual valuable herring fishing nets, as well as ship ropes and the like for the 23rd el t 'elimination of the bacterial attack at certain time intervals with protective agents to treat. This is usually done in a two-bath process, in such a way that natural tannins, especially catechu-like, such as. B. Catechu, Mangrove Extract, Otiebracho extract and the like or local derb extracts from oak, spruce, Willow, birch, alder, juniper, etc. used for the first hot bath, then the Net dries and then usually pulls through a stain. This stain contains -v #, water-soluble salts of an inorganic nature that remove the stored tannins should fix water-proof by a precipitation process. Aluminum, Copper, lime and chromium salts. The natural tanning agents are known to be mixtures from colloidally dissolved, higher molecular weight, mostly amorphous phenolic bodies and Non-tanning agents as solubilizers. Both components are important for tanning purposes, the former because they attach themselves chemically or physically to the protein and make this rot-proof and non-swellable, the second because they transport the Effect tanning phenols into the dermis. It is obvious that addition processes how they go about in nakedness, made of non-protein material, like cotton thread or hemp yarn, which is used to make fishing nets or ropes exist, cannot enter. In particular, there is no spontaneous fixation of the tanning phenols to the network fiber; is a subsequent safeguard against gradual flushing advisable, although not yet fully satisfactory due to pickling salts accessible. When handling the dry nets, some of the protective equipment dusts When used in water, the tannin, which is weakly bound to the fiber, becomes flushed out to a considerable extent.
The subject of the invention is one which avoids the disadvantages indicated Process for treating, in particular for preserving fishing nets, ropes for ships and the like. Materials that are not, as is the case with the known working methods is based on the effect of the natural tanning agents used, but on that of naphthols or naphthol-like bodies.
It is proposed according to the invention to use solutions of water-soluble naphtholates for the aforementioned purpose, which are based on naphthols with a skeleton of up to about 20 carbon atoms and with at most two henolic oxy groups, pt) where these naphthols can optionally also be substituted and their carbon skeleton by other atoms or atom groupings, such as. B. -S-, -SS-, -0-, -N H- and the like. Can be interrupted.
As examples of the compounds to be used according to the invention let the alkali compounds to be used individually or in mixtures be as follows practically water-insoluble substances called - Naphthols, Dioxynaphthylen, Dioxydinaphtyloxyd, Dioxydinaphthyl sulfide, dioxydinaphthyl disulfide and others. as well as their halogen and nitro derivatives.
The nets are treated with aqueous solutions of such naphtholates, Ropes and the like in the usual way. In general, a treatment without Warming up to success.
The duration of the treatment can vary within wide limits. It also depends, among other things, on the state in which the materials to be treated are located. When treating fishing nets, the process is ended when the knots are thoroughly impregnated. The solutions expediently contain about 2 percent by weight to about 5 percent by weight of naphtholates. In special cases , however, weaker as well as stronger solutions can be used.
It was surprising that in spite of the alkaline fiber-swelling properties Reaction of the naphtholate solutions according to the invention to complete penetration the network node is reached much better than when using the known neutral to slightly acidic natural tanning stocks.
In many cases, after drying, the naphtholate solution treated materials a sufficient protective effect already by the invention One-bath process described achieved because many of the naphtholates used in Drying in the air quickly changes into free, insoluble ones through the action of air carbonic acid Skip naphthols. So it can generally be a subsequent pickling, such as it is advisable not to use it in the known way of working with natural tanning agents.
However, if you want to achieve an increase in the bactericidal effect or other additional properties, which can sometimes be desirable, you can work in a two-bath process by adding further components by means of an aftertreatment, expediently after drying. For example, by treating the first bath with solutions that contain metal, such as copper, zinc, mercury. Like. Compounds contain, nor an increase in the bactericidal effect in the Netzod. Like. Achieve material. It is particularly advantageous to use the complex amine salt solutions that can be easily prepared from zinc or copper salt solutions with excess ammonia. Remarkably, such a treatment does not lead, as one might initially expect, to an undesired partial leaching out and transfer of the naphthols in the form of ammonium naphtholates into the second treatment bath. On the contrary, the naphthols are completely fixed, with a typical coloration of the treated material occurring depending on the naphtholates used, which can bring advantages in terms of catching technology. Brown, green and blue tones are particularly desirable.
When working with the two-bath process, the first one, naphtholates containing bath still soluble organic salts of higher molecular nature, such as Add resin salts, fatty acid salts, etc.; due to the pickling effect of the second bath precipitates of an oily or water-repellent nature in the treated material become achieved. These also counteract the attack of the bacteria and also lead for the often desired stiffening of the meshes, etc.
It is already known about phenols and their substitution products Protect textiles against bacteria through a two-bath process by first applies the alkali salts and then, for example with metal salts, the corresponding Phenolate precipitates on the fiber. However, from the fact that phenols and Phenolates have been proposed to protect textiles and yarns against bacterial influences are, nothing to be inferred that just the proposed according to the invention Products would protect fishing nets and ropes, which many times over increased exposure to bacteria-containing water and bacteria-containing sludge are subject to normal textiles, especially if, like fishing nets, they too continued with protein substances from the fish, which form bacterial breeding grounds are coated.
