The invention relates to a briefcase with several compartments provided in its interior for holding writing materials, business cards, cigarettes, etc.

Such briefcases are well known and have a relatively large capacity, so that in addition to the utensils mentioned above, there is also enough space to hold files, clothing, etc. The disadvantage of these briefcases is that, for example, a conference participant has to carry the entire briefcase with him in order to have his work documents to hand.

The object underlying the invention is to further develop a briefcase of the type outlined at the beginning in such a way that it can accommodate a folder that takes up little space, can be removed from the briefcase and, when inserted, forms the inner wall of the lid of the briefcase.

The ^main advantage of this inventive design of the briefcase is that the user can, for example, leave the briefcase as such in his hotel room after reaching his hotel and only take out the folder from the briefcase; this folder serves to hold the documents required for the conference. When the folder is in the case, it forms the inner wall of the lid of the briefcase, so that the briefcase as a whole remains attractive in its interior and the folder does not take up unnecessary space that would otherwise not be available for holding the other utensils.

In Fig. 1, a briefcase 1 is shown in the open state, where a lid 3 is pivoted by 90° against the bottom 2 of the briefcase. Of course, snap fasteners can also be used instead of Velcro fasteners, so that the folder 9 can then also be detachably connected to the briefcase 1.

In the embodiment shown, the Velcro strips 8 have a dual function. The first is that they engage with the Velcro strips 5 when the folder 9 is engaged and thus hold the folder in its desired position within the briefcase. * When the folder has been removed from the briefcase as shown in Fig. 3, the closing flap 6 can be pivoted inwards towards the front wall of the folder around one of the fold lines 7 so far that the closing flap partially overlaps the front wall of the folder and the Velcro strips 8 engage with corresponding means on the front wall of the folder and thus hold the latter in the closed state.
