Darauf wird Erz in solchen Mengen zugegeben, daß eine Anreicherung von Chrom aus dem Chromgehalt des Erzes in der sich nun bildenden Chrom-Vanadin-Schlacke in genügendem Ausmaße erzielt wird. Es genügt im allgemeinen eine Zugabe von etwa 5 bis 8 % Erz, gerechnet auf die Roheisenmenge im Konverter. Es empfiehlt sich, für die Schmelzen ein physikalisch und chemisch möglichst heißes Roheisen zu nehmen, das viel Erz aufnehmen kann, ohne kalt zu werden. Das Frischen nach Zugabe des Erzes wird wiederum ohne Kalkzugabe durchgeführt, und zwar bis zur Entkohlung des Bades, wodurch auf der Schmelze eine krümelige Chrom-Vanadin-Schlacke entsteht, die von dem Bade in geeigneter Weise entfernt-wird.
