Da derartige Gaskühler vielfach durch Wasser aus einem allgemeinen Rückkühlwasserkreislauf beaufschlagt werden, besteht weiter die Gefahr der Verschmutzung des Wassers und damit der Kühlsysteme, die Rohrleitung, der Kaminkühler usw. durch die mit dem Gas in das Wasser gelangenden Stoffe.
