Description
Process for the neutralization of sulfonic acids and sulfuric acid esters In many cases it is sufficient if one in the neutralization of alkylarylsulfonic acids or sulfonate solutions of sulfuric acid esters prepared from aliphatic alcohols wins because the sulfonates are often only used as raw materials for the production of fine or rough detergents and here in dissolved form with other substances such. B. with polyphosphates, sodium sulfate, soda, metasilicates or carboxymethyl cellulose be sprayed hot. So far one leads the neutralization of sulfonic acids and of sulfuric acid esters in general with an aqueous solution of alkali hydroxides through, in which, with vigorous stirring, the sulfonic acids or sulfuric acid esters pour in slowly. In this process, that one in technical operations one step at a time or can perform continuously, one is proportionate to the use of the expensive alkali hydroxides, because neutralization with alkali carbonates, z. B. with soda, is impracticable or significant due to excessive foaming causes technical difficulties.
It has been found that perfect neutralization of alkylarylsulfonic acids and sulfuric acid esters with alkali carbonates with technically very simple means can be carried out when sulfonic acids or sulfuric acid esters and aqueous solutions of alkali carbonates in as much as possible equivalent amount at the head of one Tower-like container from separate, but as close together as possible outlet openings sprayed against each other or into each other, the resulting neutralization solution on Bottom of the tower-like container peeled off and after the atomization of the solutions supplies remaining amounts of gas to a scrubbing device from its scrubbing liquid circuit intermittent or continuous small amounts of liquid in the tower floor accumulating neutralization solution are transferred. Because of the fine distribution, with which the two reactants interact, the reaction takes place in an extremely short time. The released carbonic acid does not cause any problems, as it can escape unhindered into the tower atmosphere as it is being formed.
The atomization of the reactants, d. H. of sulfonic acids or Sulfuric acid ester and the alkali carbonate solutions, can with the help of two side by side atomizing nozzles attached to the head of the tower, their outlet openings are directed against each other so that an intimate mixing of the atomized liquids entry. But you can also use concentrically arranged nozzles such that the acidic or alkaline component within the other ring-shaped exiting Reaction component is atomized.
The tower-like reaction vessel, which is round, for example must be of such a height and width that the atomized material only reaches the wall or the bottom of the tower when it reacts practically completely is. The neutralized reaction product collects in the form of an aqueous solution at the bottom of the reaction tower and is from there continuously into a second container directed. The air used to atomize the reactants escapes through Openings made in the tower walls or at the tower head. She will be with the at the reaction resulting gaseous components fed to an absorption tower.
This absorption tower is designed as a washing column in the form of packed columns, bell towers, sieve floor towers or as simple spray towers can be formed. The washing liquid used is water that circulates through the tower is guided. Small amounts of the circulating water are in the sump of the Neutralization tower transferred. In their place is the washing water of the absorption tower supplemented by appropriate amounts of fresh water.
The neutralization solution obtained at the bottom of the reaction tower is expediently first transferred to an agitator tank. As far as necessary, can here by adding small amounts of sulfonic acid or sulfuric acid, alkali hydroxide or alkali carbonate, any necessary corrections to the pH value of the neutralization solution be made. Then the finished aqueous solution of the neutralized Alkyl sulfonic acids or the neutralized sulfuric acid ester for further use available as a raw material for the manufacture of detergents.
Example of a sulfonic acid preheated to 4.o °, which by sulfonation of a monoalkylbenzene with an aliphatic side chain of 10 carbon atoms was, at the head of a 2 m high tower with a diameter of 1.5 m, an hour of 20 kg atomized together with 35 kg of a 15% sodium carbonate solution. The atomization took place with the help of compressed air. The sulfonic acid was previously diluted with 5% water and contained 85% monoalkylbenzenesulfonic acid and io o / o sulfuric acid.
The neutralized aqueous collected at the bottom of the reaction tower Sulphonate solution, while the air used for atomization is discharged at the top of the tower became. The escaping air flowed through a 2 m high, filled with Raschig rings Washing tower, which had a diameter of zoo mm. This washing tower was hourly applied with 301 water in the circuit. After enrichment with sulfonate, the Wash water mixed in batches with the sulfonate solution obtained in the reaction tower.
The sulfonate solution discharged at the bottom of the reaction tower ran through it a zoo 1 holding agitator tank, where they pass through in terms of their pH value The addition of acid or soda was adjusted in the desired manner. Then stood the finished sulfonate solution is available for further processing.
