Description
The separation of the resin from the originally formed vanillin from the pressure digestion liquor takes place most advantageously in such a way that the latter by means of alcohols that are immiscible with it, such as. B. propanol, extracted and the obtained extract is acidified; here the resin precipitates, while that in freedom set vanillin remains in solution. Through the present method, quantities formed of vanillin, which the original vanillin yield by about 20 to 30 0/0 and increase even more. It must be described as extraordinarily surprising that from the by-products of the degradation to be used according to the invention, the previously discarded as a nuisance, such amounts of vanillin can be recovered.
Example 1 kg of raw vanillin soda produced by alkaline extraction obtained from a pressure digestion liquor produced by means of 70% strength n-propylalkdiol is dissolved in 2 liters of water. With vigorous stirring, the solution is at room temperature slowly mixed with 4oo ccm of 25% sulfuric acid, a 1'H of about 7.2 to 7.8 is obtained. The resin which precipitates out in flakes is separated off. the end the solution are after further acidification by repeated extraction with Benzene obtained about i i i g of pure vanillin.
The separated resin (220 g) is used to remove small amounts occluded vanillin with 500 ccm of 10% sodium bisulfite solution to 40 ° for a short time warmed up. It is suctioned off, the filtrate is acidified with 25% i.ger sulfuric acid, freed it by boiling sulfur dioxide and extracted. About Obtained 2 g of pure vanillin.
The resin, which has now been completely freed from vanillin, is made using 100 g sodium hydroxide, 50 g sodium sulfite and about 1.5 g copper oxide in 1 liter of water at a pressure of 1 to 1.2 atmospheres for 16 hours at a temperature of 125 to 128 ° heated. The pressure digestion liquor is acidified with 25% sulfuric acid and washed through Boiling freed from sulfur dioxide, whereupon by extraction with Methvlenchlorid i8g of pure vanillin is obtained.
When acidifying, further amounts of unreacted resin precipitate, which is subjected to another pressure digestion. That is how you win another 8 g of pure vanillin. So a total of 113 are compared to a yield g of the sulphite liquor originally used in the pressure digestion according to the process an additional 26 g of vanillin have been obtained, which corresponds to an additional yield of over 23%.
