kondensiert.Process for the production of benzenecarboxylic acids or their esters Es
is known that you can from fossil or recent plant materials, such as stone or
Lignite, peat and the like, or from their distillation products and residues,
such as coke, tar, pitch, asphalt and the like, through oxidative degradation, primarily with nitric acid,
Persalting or compressed air in an alkaline medium, products are essentially obtained
from higher molecular weight polycyclic carboxylic acids, partly mixed with humic acids,
exist. The products are brown in color and are difficult to crystallize. To
In the process of patent specification Y-19 971, these dark-colored oxidation marks are (-) dttkte
further processed by pasting them with sulfuric acid, heating the mixture
and then drives off the benzene carboxylic acids with the remaining sulfuric acid and
condensed.
und die Menge der Schwefelsäure richten sich nach der Natur der Oxydationsprodukte;
dieTemperatur entsprechend niedriger. It has now been found that one can opt for much simpler and cheaper ones
Way can achieve a high yield of Benzolcarbonsä.uren if you the
the above-mentioned dark colored oxidation products with sulfuric acid at lower
Temperature, in any case below the distillation temperature of the sulfuric acid heated
and then the ßenzencarhonic acids not by stripping, but by precipitation or
Extract wins. As this
Process only requires a little sulfuric acid,
so the cost is very low and the process takes only a short time. The heating temperature
and the amount of sulfuric acid depends on the nature of the oxidation products;
if these are already severely broken down, a smaller amount of acid is taken and held
the temperature is correspondingly lower.
Since the use of the benzenecarboxylic acids is often in the form of their esters
or ester mixtures takes place, one can also proceed in such a way that one is used as the extractant
a suitable alcohol is used and then the benzene carboxylic acids dissolved in it
esterified with this alcohol, depending on the amount of alcohol used
has the ability to produce neutral or acidic ester mixtures.
Depending on the nature of the oxidation products, e.g. B. the number of
Carboxyl groups in the molecule, and the selected working conditions, such as temperature,
Heating time, etc., are formed when treated with sulfuric acid due to
Condensation reactions carbonaceous residues that are insoluble in water and through
Filtration can be separated. These residues, in turn, result in a very
usable starting material for the actual oxidation by making them, either
by itself or in mixture withfresh charcoal, treated with nitric acid and then
the dark oxidation product is further processed with sulfuric acid.
an.
Beispiel i ioo Gewichtsteile

Certain nitrogen-containing impurities then accumulate in the mother liquors produced in this way. It is therefore advisable, after evaporation of these mother liquors, to treat the (as dry as possible) evaporation residue again with sulfuric acid, as described above, which gives further amounts of benzenecarboxylic acids which can then be isolated in the manner indicated above. EXAMPLE 100 parts by weight of a dark-colored oxidation product with a permanganate number of 4% obtained by oxidation of a fatty coal with nitric acid are mixed with zoo parts of sulfuric acid (density about 1.84) and gradually heated to a temperature of 195 ° (measured, mixed). The heating is then stopped, whereupon the temperature rises to 209 °. After cooling, the mixture is diluted with water, the carbonaceous residue is filtered off, whereupon the benzene carboxylic acids are extracted from the filtrate with ether. By recrystallization from dilute nitric acid, 32 parts of a mixture of benzene carboxylic acids are obtained as crystals, while about 22 further parts, contaminated by nitrogenous products, remain in the mother liquor. After evaporation of the. Mother liquor to dryness and repeated treatment of the residue with sulfuric acid, a further 13 parts of a pure benzene carboxylic acid mixture are obtained. Example 2 100 parts by weight of a crude product obtained by pressure oxidation of gas coal with saline etheric acid are exhaustively extracted from acidic solution with benzene. 16 parts of a mixture of nitrogen-containing compounds are obtained as a by-product. 84 parts of purified crude product remain with a permanganate number of 32o. These are mixed with 84 parts of sulfuric acid and heated to i95 °. After the heating is switched off, there is no further increase in temperature and no carbonaceous residue is formed. It is diluted with water, extracted and crystallized according to Example i and 54 parts of a mixture of ßenzenecarboxylic acids are obtained. Example 3 100 parts of a crude product, obtained by pressure oxidation of a gas flame charcoal with nitric acid, which has a permanganate number of 220, are heated to 1.55 '(measured as a mixture) for 35 minutes after mixing with 100 parts of sulfuric acid. After dilution with water, butyl alcohol is added and the mixture is heated briefly. The benzene carboxylic acids are quickly absorbed by the alcohol, whereupon the aqueous phase containing sulfuric acid is separated off and the benzene carboxylic acids are now esterified with the butyl alcohol. 82 parts of a crude ester mixture are obtained. Distillation in a high vacuum (1 mm) gives a total of 62 parts of ester mixture with a boiling range between 280 and 300 °. EXAMPLE 4 100 parts of a crude product, obtained from a smoldering coke by pressure oxidation with nitric acid, are heated to 180 ° with 80 parts of sulfuric acid for one hour. After cooling, add parts of nitric acid (D = 1.3) to Zoo and boil briefly. It is evaporated to about 1/3 of the original volume, whereupon it is allowed to cool and crystallize. The crystallizate sucked off consists of 40 parts of a benzene carboxylic acid mixture. The: mother liquor was evaporated and the residue treated again with sulfuric acid as in Example i. For example, 15,000 parts of a product obtained from a lean coal by pressure oxidation with air in the presence of aqueous soda and then separated from the soda by electrodialysis are briefly heated to 200 ° after mixing with 170 parts of sulfuric acid. After dilution with water, extraction and crystallization as in Example i, times 35 parts of a benzene carboxylic acid mixture are obtained. Example 6 100 parts of crude product. obtained by oxidation of high-temperature tar pitch with nitric acid, heated to igo ° for 30 minutes with 250 parts of sulfuric acid. After working up according to Example 5 or i, 58 parts of benzene carbonate are obtained.
