Ignition systems for operating multi-cylinder internal combustion engines are
generally equipped with sliding track or rollover distributors through which
the ignition current to the spark plugs in the individual cylinders of the internal combustion engine
is forwarded. Of these ignition distributor systems, the sloping track distributor
the disadvantage that there is considerable wear of the sliding contacts here,
which not only causes heavy wear, but also contamination of the grinding track
and generally the interior of the distributor with electrically conductive particles
Has. This is not the case with the rollover distributor, but the
voltage consumed in the distributor can be applied by the ignition system, and also
the rollover distributor results in unfavorably large dimensions, especially if it adds
high ignition voltages or must be dimensioned for operation in dilute air. These
Disadvantages can be avoided if, according to the invention, instead of fixed ones
Distribution segments, which work together with a rotating distribution finger,
a number of switches equal to the number of distributor segments is provided,
which are operated by at least one switching cam and which are operated by at least
A breaker controlled primary currents to one of the number of switches corresponding
Switch number of ignition coils.
Unterbrechernocken i.
Unterbrecherkontakten parallel geschalteter Kondensator k.
Steuernocken i des Primärstromunterbrechers.
The figure shows an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, specifically in a circuit diagram of a battery ignition system for operating a six-cylinder internal combustion engine, in which each spark plug is assigned a special ignition coil. In the figure, a means an accumulator battery and b means a switch for switching the ignition system on and off. c is the primary and d the secondary winding of an ignition coil to which a spark plug e is connected. To control the passage of current through the primary winding c and also through the primary windings of five other ignition coils, not shown, a primary circuit breaker is used, consisting of a fixed breaker contact f, a breaker contact h mounted on a pivoting breaker lever g and a six-humped breaker cam i. The primary circuit breaker also includes a capacitor k connected in parallel to the breaker contacts. A distributor device is used to distribute the current pulses to the six ignition coils, which consists of six switches m and a single-humped switching cam n that actuates them. The switching cam n is attached to the same 'drive shaft as the control cam i of the primary circuit breaker. The switching times of the switches m and t, g, h are dimensioned so that the closing time of the switch m completely covers the closing time of the primary circuit breaker. Is z. B. the closing time of the primary circuit breaker per 30 °, the switch m are expediently set to a closing time of 5o ° each. The switching sequence is accordingly in the illustrated ignition system such that first one of the switches m and then the primary circuit breaker i is closed. The opening of the interrupter i causes a rapid current change in the primary circuit of one of the six ignition coils. As a result, a voltage is induced in its secondary winding d, which results in an ignition spark on the spark plug e. After the ignition spark has been skipped, the closed switch m is only opened again. It results from the fact that the switches m are always switched on and off again without current. The distribution contacts can therefore have a practically unlimited life, especially if care is taken that the individual switches na thrust-free, ie work so that their contacts do not rub against each other. When using such a distributor as a high-voltage distributor, it is useful to fill the distributor interior with an insulating liquid.
