Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
While with porcelain gilding, the shiny gold is alone compared to the former used Polirgolde because of its many advantages is generally accepted so far it has not been possible to produce a ■ beautiful gold coating on glass, which at the same time has the durability and strength of bright gold decorations on porcelain; it is not possible at the temperature of what glass is in the muffle without causing a deformation suffer, can be exposed to achieve a meltdown of the gold. The up Glassware now commercially available and decorated with bright gold suffer, as well Generally known in professional circles, because of the inconvenience that the gilding is easy to remove can be wiped off, and that, due to its lack of durability, the gold is already through the unavoidable contact during packaging, shipping etc. suffers. This is true of the only glass that is difficult to melt so far on the market. The more easily meltable Up to now, crystal glasses could not be decorated with bright gold at all.
The procedure described below is intended to remedy this deficiency. The same thing consists in the fact that after smoking the bright gold coating is provided with a refractory protective layer which does not attack the gold and which can be easily removed afterwards, and is fixed by local heating. It is advisable to etch the glass base in a known manner before applying the bright gold. After the etching, the bright gold is applied to the prepared area as usual. They smoke the same thereto at low temperature (about 300 0 C.), until the bare gold mirror appears, the not yet firmly adheres.
A: liefern brauchbare Resultate. Nach dem Erkalten des so behandelten Glases läfst sich die Schutzmasse leicht durch Abwaschen mit Wasser entfernen und man erhält eine imIn order to have enough heat to melt the gold when it is burned in to be able to use it without thereby deforming the glass object, is applied to the Gold cover first a protective mass by means of water, z. B. yellow clay (so-called yellow earth), applied in the manner of a color with a brush and then by local heating of the to be gold-plated, z. B. with the blower lamp, burned the gold. Through the Covering the gold skin is protected from the harmful effects of the flame, at the same time but the gold melted down without deforming the glass. The composition of the protective mass can of course be different be. The various clays that have previously been glowed have proven to be the most suitable and rubbed with water, can be applied easily and with a good coverage with a brush, yellow or white clay, kaolin, etc. But also other masses, such as fluorspar, Barite, chalk, witherite and others: provide useful results. An addition of According to previous experience, copper vitriol promotes the melting of gold, without damaging its color beauty. Runs after the treated glass has cooled down the protective mass can be easily removed by washing with water and an im
Nice, very durable and firmly adhering gold plating, which is the one made by Polirgold is equal in every respect.
This process removes the obstacles that previously caused the shiny gold plating of the Glass, overcome in a simple way, namely:

3. durch die eventuelle Vorätzung des Glasgrundes. .3. by the possible pre-etching of the glass base. .
This made it possible for the more easily meltable crystal glasses in the first place Bright gold plating offers the same advantages over Polirgolddecoration as with Porcelain, especially the great economy in gold consumption, through which the gilding is done is far more than half cheaper than using the. Polirgoldes; further the achievement of a bright gold plating without the use of polished stones. Any deformation is avoided; because only a short, in places, superficial heating of the glass is required is saved on coal.
