Die eigenartige Ausbildung des Erfindungsgegenstandes stellt die erforderliche Reibung desselben mit der Schaltwalze auf die Dauer her, und zwar unabhängig von der Zahl der aufgelegten Durchschläge und Kopierblätter und unabhängig von der Beschaffenheit der Schaltwalze, welche vielfach durch Schrumpfen einen verringerten Durchmesser oder durch die eingeschlagenen Rillen eine stark verminderte Grifffähigkeit besitzt. Ferner zeichnet sich der Schoner durch eine hohe Zerrgiß- und Knitterfestigkeit aus, was bei dem häufigen Ein- und Herausziehen desselben aus der Maschine sowie für die Blätter wesentlich ist, weil auch die letztere gegen Einreißen durch den widerstandsfähigen Schoner geschützt werden. Diese Haltbarkeit gibt dem Schoner eine fast unbegrenzte Gebrauchsdauer.
