Description

Process for improving the properties of aqueous polymer dispersions It is known, that aqueous dispersions of acrylic acid esters and / or vinyl esters, especially Vinylacetax, in addition to small amounts of acrylic acid due to the addition of smaller Amounts of ammonia can be thickened to paste consistency.

It has now been found that the properties of aqueous dispersions of vinyl chloride polymers, d. H. of polyvinylchloride or copolymers from predominant amounts of vinyl chloride and other polymers such as acrylic acid esters, Maleic acid esters and the like, can be improved in several ways if these dispersions with small amounts of aqueous dispersions of copolymers from predominant amounts of acrylic acid esters and / or vinyl esters in addition to small amounts Acrylic, acid and also with this much: '\ inmoniak added until the mixture has the has the desired consistency. In the mass obtained in this way, you can optionally also Mix in larger amounts of dispersions of vinyl chloride polymers in proportions. The well-known thickening effect caused by the addition of ammonia to the aqueous dispersions of copolymers of acrylic acid esters and / or vinyl esters and small amounts Acrylic acid can be achieved, according to the invention on the dispersions of Transfer vinyl chloride polymers. Obviously there is a phase reversal .The dispersions of the vinyl chloride polymers instead, so that a dispersion of water is present in polymer. This dispersion is as further found was, with large amounts of further dispersions of vinyl chloride polymers, the plasticizer-free or containing plasticizer can be "combinable, without the consistency changing significantly. Parts of the with Ammonia thickened mixture of the two dispersions up to about 2000 and more Add parts of an aqueous dispersion of vinyl chloride polymers, without that the consistency changes significantly.

Die gemäß der Erfindung behandelten Dispersionen hingegen sind praktisch beliebig weit mit Füllstoffen versetzbar, ohne daß Koagulation eintritt..In addition to the thickening effect, the method according to the invention is also used achieved other valuable effects. The available ointment-shaped or viscous ones Ibis creamy dispersions are in contrast to the untreated dispersions of Vinyl chloride polymers extremely resistant to mechanical stress when mixing with fillers on kneading machines, mixing mills and the like, so that they even with a long, very intensive and often repeated pass coagulation does not render the mixing machines unusable. The untreated In addition, fillers can only be added to dispersions to a limited extent. With the addition of larger ones Amounts of fillers; occurs especially after long periods of standing and processing on mixing machines Coagulation a. The dispersions treated according to the invention, however, are Can be displaced practically as far as desired with fillers without coagulation occurring.

Beim Verarbeiten, z. When processing, e.g. B. on flooring or wall covering, stand out these thickened dispersions have excellent properties compared to the untreated dispersions Quickness, better fluidity and, above all, due to the longer processing time the end. When used for paints, they prove themselves through their good tack as well as good flow and give coatings that are very resistant to cold and hot water and against saponifying agents and even with hot soapy water can be brushed 'without suffering change.

Dies, -können mehrmals durch eine Farbmühle o.. dgl. geschickt werden, wodurch sie wesentlich verbessert werden können.EXAMPLE 33 parts of a low viscosity, about 50% strength aqueous dispersion of a copolymer composed of 49 parts of butyl acrylate. 4d parts of vinyl acetate and about 2 parts of acrylic acid ground well with 67 parts of a thin, about 40% strength aqueous dispersion of a copolymer of about 80% vinyl chloride and 20% methyl acrylate and with 0.67 parts of an approximately 25% strength aqueous ammonia solution mixed. After brief stirring, a weak, rapidly growing thickening occurs. Without waiting for the maximum thickening, one now stirs in proportions of 100 parts each, a total of about 500 to 2,000 parts, of a low viscosity, about 40% aqueous dispersion of about 25% y'ynyl chloride and 20% acrylic acid meflyl ester up to 4o% of a plasticizer, e.g. 13. Dibutylphtbalat or Dioctvlplithalat or the like. Depending on the amount of this dispersion, creamy to consistent products are obtained. This can be sent through a paint mill or the like several times, so that they can be significantly improved.

Used instead of the plasticized dispersion made of vinyl chloride and methyl acrylate, all other things being equal, are plasticizer-free Dispersion of a copolymer of 6o parts vinyl chloride and 4o parts acrylic acid aniutyl ester, in this way one also obtains an excellently mixable disp.version ° n.
