KLASSE 21: Elektrische Apparate.CLASS 21: Electrical apparatus.
Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 9. März 1894 ab.Patented in the German Empire on March 9, 1894.
As is well known, the carbon pins for electrical lighting are only sharpened after burning, which is usually achieved by grinding with emery wheels. This process, as well as the product produced, has many shortcomings. The burned, i.e. hardened, carbon pins show considerable resistance to grinding, so they also require a corresponding amount of work. The dust and debris is not only not recyclable as waste, but must be removed by special fans, which creates nuisance from the dirty coal dust. The product in particular is imperfect. On the ground conical surface no crust is of course available, such as those on the outward lateral surface of the: originated carbon rod by pressing and firing, but on the contrary a blofsgelegte very porous surface which by the red heat of the electric arc and the addition step of in the air contained oxygen is quickly consumed. Experience shows that the thicker and denser the crust, the more the resistance to combustion increases, and therefore the longer the burning time of the coals increases in the same proportion.
Around now from the beginning a crust also for the conical part at the top proceed as follows: After the still malleable bars leave the press, they are cut to the required length and then immediately using a special one Milling machine installed in your facility with machine tools dedicated to woodworking with circumferential knives shows resemblance, provided with a point. This high-speed milling machine causes by the abrasion of small chips a warming of the processed surface and the binding agent, with the result that the milled surface is also smoothed and with a crust than the rest of the surface is provided by several hundreds of atmospheres pressed whole charcoal sticks. If the carbon rod thus worked is now annealed in the furnace, so also the beveled part at the point becomes the same solid, resistant Crust preserved as the cylindrical surface. The process still offers a number of Advantage by eliminating the shortcomings just indicated. The milled chips and the entire waste due to breakage and so on can be reused, since the mass is moist and in a plastic state and therefore does not form dust. The effort is extremely small, the fans are superfluous and the operation is designed, because no effort is required, extremely easy.
