5,89 %, FeQ 0g 4,89 0/0, Ca 0 38,96 %, S 03 0,72 %, HE 0 + C 02 28,72
0/0, Mg 0 2,52 0/0.Processing of basaltic minerals On the coast of Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Norway, Sweden, Greenland and Labrador, there is sea sand, which consists of a mixture of weathered basaltic rocks with shell limestone. The composition of this sea sand is, for example, the following: Si 02 15.74 0/0, A120.1 5.89%, FeQ 0g 4.89 0/0, Ca 0 38.96%, S 03 0.72%, HE 0 + C 02 28.72 0/0, Mg 0 2.52 0/0.
abgetrennt: Si02 4,140/0, A1j0$ 1,40%, Fe203 o,820/0, CaO 5o,220/0, S03 0,900/0,
H20 + C02 39,700/0,M90 o,950/0, während der magnetische Teil folgende Zusammensetzung
aufweist: Si 02 42,840/0, A12 03 16,38 %, Fe2 03 14,40 0/0, Ca 0 12,68 0/0,S
03 0,51 0/0, H2 0 + C 02 3,10 0/0, Mg 0 6,17 0/0.In order to enable this sea sand to be used for the production of cement, glass, ceramic materials and the like, it is necessary to increase the lime and silica content. Silica is usually found in large quantities in these countries, while lime would have to be imported. There is therefore a need to enrich this sand in particular with lime. It has now been found that such processing is possible if the material, if it is not already in fine-grained form, is comminuted and then the paramagnetic from the diamagnetic components are separated by a magnetic field. The separation is expediently carried out by means of a controllable magnetic field into fractions according to the magnetic permeability of the constituents. For this purpose, the shredded material can be passed over several magnetic fields of different strengths. It has proven to be useful to guide the material in the course of the conveying path over rollers in which the magnets are housed. In preparation for the magnetic separation, the material is expediently counteracted by a gaseous or liquid pressure medium in the form of a sand jet or a water jet. Surfaces thrown in such a way that an extensive comminution takes place. It has also proven advantageous to subject the material to a heat treatment or to anneal it prior to magnetic separation: the extensive deposits of ground shell limestone and basalt, e.g. B. the Onundarfjördur shell sand of the composition mentioned above, are pumped out as sludge and the liquid suspension is thrown under high pressure in the form of a jet against hard surfaces. The sand can also be dried and thrown against hard surfaces in the form of a sandblast. Separation by sieving can also take place. The comminuted mixture obtained in this way is now guided over a conveyor belt and a roller in which a magnet is removed from the required. Strength is housed. A non-magnetic component of the following composition is separated by a single treatment: Si02 4.140 / 0, A1j0 $ 1.40%, Fe203 0.820 / 0, CaO 5o, 220/0, S03 0.900 / 0, H20 + C02 39.700 / 0, M90 0.950/0, while the magnetic part has the following composition: Si 02 42.840 / 0, A12 03 16.38%, Fe2 03 14.40 0/0, Ca 0 12.68 0/0, S 03 0.51 0/0, H2 0 + C 02 3.10 0/0, Mg 0 6.17 0/0.
The non-magnetic part is made by adding Si 02 in the form of quartz
O. The like. Brought to the desired composition and can now to cement or
Glass o. The like. Be processed. Alumina can also be added to the required extent

Island, vorkommt.By separating the mixture using magnets of different field strengths
a further fractionation can be effected. It has also been shown that
by heat treatment, e.g. B. by annealing the starting material, the paramagnetic
Allow the properties of the raw materials to be changed to a large extent. For the strength of the magnetizability
the content of iron-containing components, such as magnetite, is probably the decisive factor,
as iron basalt in many basaltic rocks, also in the basalt ceilings of
Iceland, occurs.
