Description

String instruments (cello, viola, violin) are advantageously covered with one or more metal strings which, compared to gut strings, have purer vibration types due to a more homogeneous mass distribution as well as a high frequency constancy and durability. But they are also characterized by a. earnestly greater rigidity. This increases the natural vibrations of the instrument body in that it acts as an additional spring in the longitudinal axis parallel to the suspension of the ceiling and floor. This leads to a sound character which, according to recent physical studies (Meinel E. T. N 1937 vol. 14, no. 4 p. 119 and Ak. Zs. Year 5, 1940, no. 3 and 5) differs from the ideal sound of the old italian instruments removed. Another disadvantage is the poor response of the metal string, since, compared to the gut string, a greater mechanical energy has to be applied by the bow movement in order to generate string amplitudes of the same size.

In order to shift the violin body resonance towards lower frequencies and to improve the response while utilizing the advantages of #metal strings, it is proposed according to the invention to reduce their stiffness by means of a spring to a level that is matched to the gut strings. Here, the compression spring (i tailpiece, 2 retaining screw, 3 strings, 4 ridge 5 violin top, 6 abutment, 7 compression spring see. Fig.), Which is biased to the necessary for the predetermined pitch longitudinal tension proves, because of their much lower dimension of the Mainspring Superior. In addition, similar to gut strings, there is no need for the fine tuners that are essential for metal strings by means of screw transmission.

Claims (1)

PATENT CLAIM: String instrument with metal strings, characterized in that in the longitudinal pull of the strings there is a spring which preferably consists of a compression spring pretensioned to the tension of the strings, the counter bearing of which is attached to the tailpiece.
