Process for the vacuum-tight sealing of electrical discharge vessels
with metal piston and metal end plate The invention relates to
a method for the vacuum-tight sealing of electrical discharge vessels
with metal piston and metal cover plate. There is already a procedure for
Sealing of the electrical3 discharge vessels with metal pistons and metallic ones
End plate known in which the one in the direction of the axis of the vessel
beveled flanged pistons into those of the flange of the end plate
formed, filled with a solder ring-shaped channel set and the flanges through
Heating to be soldered together. When performing the known method
a special heating device is required for the metallic end plate
to connect vacuum-tight with the metal piston.
This disadvantage can be avoided if the method for vacuum sealing
Sealing of electrical discharge vessels with metal pistons and metallic ones
End plate
is formed in the manner according to the invention.
According to the invention, the centering pin pressed out of the end plate
arranged getter girders as heating elements for soldering the two parts of the discharge vessel
used together. This method also has the essential advantage
that, in contrast to high frequency heating, it is not necessary to use the entire
Heat tube.
der Abschlußplatte i i verbunden.
The method according to the invention is described below with reference to the figures
explained in more detail. The discharge vessel to be closed in a vacuum-tight manner consists of a
Metal piston io, which is expediently made of an easily malleable material, for example
Steel. The thickness of this cup-shaped metal body is preferable
very low, for example on the order of 0.25 mm. The cup-shaped
The metal body is closed by a likewise seamless metal end plate i i,
which is provided with an inclined flange 27 on its outer edge. The flange
27 forms a groove in which, on the one hand, a plumb line and, on the other hand, the cup-shaped
Part io are introduced. These parts are fused in a vacuum chamber.
The end plate i i is provided with a tubular extension 35, which
forms part of the end plate and expediently has a length that is less
is than that of a common pump nozzle. The extension 35 serves on the one hand as a centering pin
for centering the tube in a corresponding socket. To this end is the same
provided with a lateral projection 36, so that the tube only in a certain
Location can be used in the socket. The contact pins 21 to 25 form parts
of the supply lines. The centering pin 35 serves on the other hand as a container for the getter material.
For this purpose, a metal part 43 is arranged in the extension 35, which according to FIG
Fig. I runs coaxially to the axis of the discharge vessel. This metal part 43,
which is shown enlarged in FIG. 2, consists for example of tantalum
and is covered on at least one side with a substance, which is made of tantalum
reacts in such a way that a gas-binding substance is released. So the tantalum can
for example with a coating of barium oxide or a mixture of barium oxide
be provided with strontium oxide. The metal body 43, which serves as a radiator,
is by welding directly to the inner surface of the extension 35 with
the end plate i i connected. At the other end is the metal body 43 with a
Supply line 45 connected via a connecting line 46. So it's for gettering
only required between the supply line 45 and the end plate i i a
To apply high enough voltage so that the metal body to the reaction temperature
is heated. For this purpose an alternating current source 48 with supply lines 49 is provided
and so provided.
The getter arrangement also has the effect of heating
of the heater 43, the end plate i i fused vacuum-tight with the flask io
will. The metal body 43 must therefore have such a heat capacity that the end plate
i i can be heated to the melting point of the solder without the getter process
is initiated. The arrangement of the getter material within the tubular extension
35 also has the advantage that the getter material does not affect the
Can precipitate insulating parts of the electrode system. To such disturbances
to avoid, it can be useful in some cases to use the resistance element
43 ', as shown in Fig. 3, slightly inclined to the axis of the attachment
35 to be arranged so that the lower surface 51 of the body 43 'of the opening of the appendix
is turned away. If the getter material is then only attached to the surface 5 i,
the getter vapors can practically not escape from the extension 35, but
are reflected in the lower part of the process. The radiator 43 'needs
not to have the form shown in FIG. 3, but can also if necessary
trained in a different way. It is only necessary that the area
on which the getter material is attached, facing away from the opening of the extension 35
is.
