Description

Electrolyte for the production of protective coatings on heavy metals and their alloys There: are known processes aluminum and light metals in suitable baths electrolytically riding oxide layers to protect against corrosion to cover. Processes are also known, iron or zinc, with anti-corrosion phosphate layers or to coat chromates.

New and object of the present invention is an electrolyte, in -, velchem heavy metals and their alloys, especially zinc, electrolytically in the bath be covered with layers of silicate or other permanent oxide layers. Simultaneously are formed from the electrolyte salts or acids in the bath and the metals to be protected salts that are sparingly soluble in water. The objects to be coated are called the anode placed in a bath, which preferably consists of colloidal solutions and suitable Conductive salts or acids produced wind. Should z. B. zinc with a protective silicate layer are coated, a bath of colloidal silica is applied, the pH of which is adjusted to 3 to 6 with metaphosphates or pyrophosphates. However, it is also possible, for example, to use an aqueous solution of titanium calcium iumoxallate will. It is essential to use suitable electrolyte salts or acids and their anions do not attack or only slightly attack the metal to be protected. Phosphoric acid, pyro- or metaphosphoric acid and their salts are preferred. This does not mean, however, that boric acid or other acids or. whose salts come into question. The selection of the acids and supporting electrolyte salts is analogous depending on the desired effect and the metal to be protected.
